Blog Tour- Interview + Giveaway: My Ex From Hell by Tellulah Darling

Hey guys! Welcome to my stop on the blog tour! Today I've got for you and awesome interview with Tellulah Darling AND a giveaway! Let's get started!

My Ex From Hell by Tellulah Darling
(The Blooming Goddess Trilogy #1)
Publication date: April 1st 2013
Genre: Young Adult

Sixteen-year-old Sophie Bloom wishes she’d been taught the following:
a) Bad boy’s presence (TrOuBlE) + teen girl’s brain (DraMa) = TrAuMa (Highly unstable and very volatile.)
b) The Genus Greekulum Godissimus is notable for three traits: 1) awesome abilities, 2) grudges, and 3) hook-ups, break-ups, and in-fighting that puts cable to shame.

Prior to the Halloween dance, Sophie figures her worst problems involve adolescent theatrics, bitchy yoga girls, and being on probation at her boarding school for mouthy behaviour. Then she meets bad boy Kai and gets the kiss that rocks her world.

This breath stealing lip lock reawakens Sophie’s true identity: Persephone, Goddess of Spring. She’s key to saving humanity in the war between the Underworld and Olympus, target numero uno of Hades and Zeus, and totally screwed.

Plus there’s also the little issue that Sophie’s last memory as Persephone was just before someone tried to murder her.

Big picture: master her powers, get her memories back, defeat Persephone’s would be assassin, and save the world. Also, sneak into the Underworld to retrieve stolen property, battle the minions of Hades and Zeus, outwit psycho nymphs, slay a dragon, rescue a classmate, keep from getting her butt expelled from the one place designed to keep her safe …

… and stop kissing Kai, Prince of the Underworld.

My Ex From Hell is a romantic comedy/Greek mythology smackdown. Romeo and Juliet had it easy.

You can find the book on: Goodreads | Amazon | Barnes & Noble |

(Also, you can find my 4-star review of My Ex From Hell here, where I gush about this awesome book!)

Lili: Tell us 3 random things about yourself.

  1. I manage to be both a hopeless romantic and a horrible cynic at the same time, which means I’m not always sure whether to cheer or heckle.
  2. I tap dance.
  3. I would describe myself as a geek rather than a nerd. I think that nerds are smarter but I have better social skills.

Lili: Describe your novel in a Tweet (140 characters or less).

Tellulah: 16 yr old gets kiss from bad boy at midnight & learns she's Persephone Goddess of Spring & savior of humanity in war btwn Zeus & Hades YIKES

Lili: What led you to write My Ex From Hell?

Tellulah: I’ve always loved the idea of retelling/reshaping classic myths and fairy tales. Playing with them in different contexts. When I started to think about doing that myself, it was Persephone that really spoke to me. I didn’t want to retell the original or simply move the same story to modern day. I wanted her past mostly (with the addition of Kai) as is, and then make it firmly a human struggling to be a goddess. Sophie suddenly has to deal with all these expectations of herself on a global scale. It’s hard enough figuring out who we are as teens, so revealing a goddess identity just threw her into an entirely new pressure cooker. And because I love romantic comedy so much, this whole series, in my head at least, really is a rom-com first and foremost.

Lili: What was your favorite part about writing My Ex From Hell?

Tellulah: The friendships between Sophie, Hannah, and Theo. I’ve read a lot of YA where the protagonist doesn’t really have friends and that works well for those stories. But when I think back to my teen years, my friendships were so important to me. And I knew they were for Sophie as well. I just love the three of them.

Lili: What does your protagonist, Sophie, think of you? Would she want to hang out with you, the author… her creator?

Tellulah: Gawd, no! Maybe by the end of the series, Sophie would consider hanging out with an old person (i.e. someone over 30) but for now, her world is that of her peers. Not that I blame her. Her home life is pretty non-existent and her friends are her family. As for me, personally, I’m sure Sophie wouldn’t think I’m half as clever as I think I am. There would be a lot of eye rolling.

Lili: Can you tell us about any upcoming books?

Tellulah: Well, My Date from Hell comes out on October 31 and I’m hosting the Sassy Girl Swoony God Tourney on my site starting Sept. 16 to help launch it. Which should be a lot of fun. The final book in the trilogy My Life From Hell comes out next year. And after that? My next series is going to be a fantasy romantic comedy that is for older YA readers. More like my first book Sam Cruz’s Infallible Guide to Getting Girls.

Lili: I, personally, am a HUGE fan of Greek mythology! One of my favorite gods is Apollo, the god of medicine and healing (among other things), which would make sense since I’m a nursing student. But what I want to know is who YOUR favorite Greek god/goddess is? Is it someone from your book?

Tellulah: Great question! I think in terms of my classical understanding of the Greeks, it would be Eros because while he embodies love, he is also mischievous and sly. Plus he gets a happily-ever-after with Psyche. But for gods where I’ve made up their personality, it is most definitely what I’ve done with Hephaestus in book two of the series!

Lili: And lastly, if you had a superpower, what would it be and why?

Tellulah: Invisibility because I’m so nosy. I would love to be able to spy and eavesdrop on people to my heart’s content. Which is really shallow given that I could have chosen healing or the ability to make world peace, but I’m a writer so there you go. J

They took everything: her family, her home, her childhood.

By the age of nineteen, Raven has spent most of her life in the sprawling slums of America, fighting as a rebel against the dictatorship. When the rebellion steals an experimental time-travel device, she travels back five decades to the year 2013. Her plan: assassinate the future dictator when he is still young and vulnerable, long before he comes to power. She must move fast to reshape history, because agents from her own time are on her trail, ready to execute her on sight.

My rating: ★★★★☆

First thing's first... time traveling? CONFUSING! lol. Second thing... That's one cool cover :)

So, I haven't read too many books about time traveling, but I thought this one had an interesting take on the subject with a great plot going on! Also, it was totally action-packed!

Palta learned long ago not to expect a “normal” life. She’d settle for one free of close encounters with supernaturally-gifted homicidal maniacs.

Apparently that’s too much to ask.

Join your favorite Onontian royal family, as they settle into life at the palace...only don’t get too comfortable, because things are about to take a hair-raising turn.

Vitality is the gripping third installment in the Proximity series.

Man this book... SO much awesomeness! Also, I'm going to miss this series! I can't believe it's over already! *sad face*

When Paris and Helen decide to hit the road together, it means more trouble than they can imagine for both themselves and the people of Troy. But who says Helen is entirely at fault? Sure she had a face that launched a thousand ships . . . but she also had a little interference from the meddling god of love and his mother, Aphrodite. Think you know the truth behind the Greek myths? Think again. Hades is here to set you straight once more on the true story of the Trojan War.

My rating: ★★★★★

This was such a fun read! I especially liked that Hades was the narrator...I really like him! He's always portrayed as the bad guy when really he's not! And this book shows that!

In the stories of the ancient Vikings, Thor is a warrior without equal, who wields his mighty hammer in battles against trolls, giants, and dragons. He is the god of storms and thunder, who rides to war in a chariot pulled by goats, and who is fated to fall in battle with the Midgard Serpent during Ragnarok, the end of all things. This book collects the greatest myths and legends of the thunder god, while also explaining their historical context and their place in the greater Norse mythology. It also covers the history of Thor as a legendary figure, how he was viewed by different cultures from the Romans to the Nazis, and how he endures today as a popular heroic figure.

My rating: ★★★★☆

As you all may know, I ADORE mythology! I admit that Greek is my favorite and I am not as familiar with Norse as I am with Greek. But that's why I really liked this book! It was very informative in all things Thor, especially myths he is mentioned in, and even some other religious stuff like the Viking's worshiping and the temples they built.

Cover Reveal + Giveaway: Bitter Pill by Stacey Kade

Hola! Today I have for you a cover reveal of Stacey Kade's (author of The Ghost and the Goth and The Rules) *Adult* novel, Bitter Pill! But first, a few words from Stacey Kade herself...

I’m so excited to be able to share [Bitter Pill] with you guys! It is one of those incredibly rare books where it almost felt like it wrote itself, and I just had to keep up. Well, the first draft anyway! :D

When I wrote this story, I was desperately homesick for the very tiny town where I lived in junior high. As some of you know, my dad is a Lutheran pastor, so we moved quite a bit during my childhood. For whatever reason, that small town in Southern Illinois really stuck with me. Morrisville is a (very) fictionalized version of that place.

There’s an odd mix of intense gossip and deep reserve that seems inherent to small towns. It’s part of the culture—“We know everything about everybody, but we don’t talk about that.” Certain things were just not discussed, which makes small towns a prime environment for secrets. And secrets are at the heart of every mystery.

So, when I sat down to write this story, that element of knowing someone well but not really knowing what they might be capable of intrigued me.

Rennie Harlow is my grown-up version of Nancy Drew, I suppose. Except, unlike cool, calm and collected Nancy, Rennie’s life is a disaster. She’s trying to make it through a particularly rough patch, but she’s flailing and fumbling, and I can so relate to that.

As for Sheriff Jake Bristol…well, what can I say, there’s something about an honorable man in a tough situation that’s pretty irresistible. :D

Thank you again for checking out Bitter Pill, and I hope you’ll give it a try!

The truth is a bitter pill...

Rennie Harlow is having a bad year. She had a handsome husband, a good job, and a renovated condo in Chicago. Now, thanks to one "exotically beautiful" paralegal, she’s divorced, faking her way through a writing career, and living above her hypochondriac mother's garage back in Morrisville, the small town she couldn't leave fast enough at eighteen. On top of all of that, she just found Doc Hallacy, the local pharmacist, dead behind his counter. And the worst part is, he's the third body she’s stumbled across this year.

Jake Bristol has lived in Morrisville his whole life. A former bad boy turned sheriff, he doesn’t believe it’s just Rennie’s luck or timing that’s the problem. He thinks she’s too nosy for her own good. The last thing he needs is her messing around with his murder investigation so that she can freelance for the Morrisville Gazette. But as they both delve deeper into Doc's death, they find that things don't add up. This isn't a robbery gone wrong or the work of a desperate junkie. Someone has a secret they're killing to keep. The only question is—who's next?

Expected publication date: October 28, 2013

Love bites.
Probation sucks.

Thanks to Dante’s recklessness, Aurora is now partners with Valerie: the redheaded, backstabbing vixen.

Dante is in full flirt mode. Fane’s tactics are more ruthless. Something carnal has awakened in Aurora and neither boy is helping tame her cravings.

When a member of the unit’s team is found dead, Aurora and Valerie are sent after a vampire in Sitka, but Aurora suspects the killer’s much closer to home.

Okay, I want to start off this review by saying that I ADORED Dante! He is just so funny and so much fun and so totally adorable... *sighs* Enough said, I loved him :) And that texting exchange between Aurora and him on chapter was HOT! I loved it!

GUARDIANS INC.: THE CYPHER is two stories in one. A glimpse into a multinational company that is in reality the oldest of secret societies, one that spans close to seven thousand years of existence, weaving in and out of history, guiding and protecting humanity from creatures and forces that most of us believe are only mythology and fairy tales.

The other is the story of Thomas Byrne, a young man thrust into secrets he shouldn't be aware of and dangers he shouldn't face, but that he ultimately will, for he is a Cypher. The only one who can steer humanity's future.

The ultimate conspiracy theory is that Magic is real. Kept in check by technology, but every five hundred years the balance can shift and, if it does, technology will fail and those creatures we've driven into myth will come back with a vengeance.

To protect the present, Guardians Incorporated needs to know the future.

My rating: ★★★★☆

One thing I love on any book I read is action! And this book was action packed!

The idea of this Guardians Inc company protecting humanity from this whole other supernatural world was just genius! I really enjoyed exploring it. The story was very interesting too... Thomas suddenly being thrust into this whole other world he thought only existed in books. And it turns out that his role in the company is more important than he could possibly imagine!

In Ancient Greece, the invocation "May the Gods watch over you" was more than a spoken blessing. It was an entreaty for divine benevolence.

When Damon sees a beautiful woman alone, far from civilization, he can’t help but be drawn to her. But his life–as it should have been– is altered and twisted by the immortal touch of deity.

Damon’s daughter, Phoibe, is raised to be wary and distrustful of the gods.

And so she must choose–

If Phoibe marries a mortal, she risks eternal solitude for a moment of love.

If she follows her heart, she risks spurning a god.

The gods are powerful, and their knowledge is vast.

But the gods…

The gods are far from perfect.

Origin of the Sphinx is a novella detailing the story leading up to the creation of the mythological creature, the Sphinx. It is the beginning of the Sphinx series.

My rating: ★★★☆☆

First thing's first, I LOVE Greek mythology!! I adore anything having to do with it. And, overall, I really enjoyed this novella.

Whoever said being a teenage witch would be easy? For fifteen-year-old Julie Richardson and the city’s resident protector from supernatural evil, the Left Hand Path doesn't give a damn if you've found true love for the first time in your life. There’s someone lurking the halls of Crescent Ridge High School with enough malice to unleash an epidemic of Soul Worms – supernatural larvae that feed on the very fabric of a victim’s humanity.

After witnessing the death of one of the most popular kids at school, Julie and ├╝ber genius boyfriend Marcus are in a race against time to find out who is behind the attacks. All the evidence points to a horrifying plot at the City Weir during the Winter Solstice; the place where icy waters of the Bow River and a thunderous spillway will mean the deaths of more than a hundred of Julie’s classmates.

If she has any hope of saving their lives, she’ll need a little help from a coven of white witches and an Aboriginal mage whose snarky attitude is matched only by her magical prowess.

And you know what, I (for some reason) didn't think there would be a sequel to Poltergeeks because it wrapped things up so nicely. But I'm glad there was a sequel because I really liked it!

Isadora’s family is seriously screwed up.

Of course, as the human daughter of Egyptian gods, that pretty much comes with the territory. She’s also stuck with parents who barely notice her, and a house full of relatives who can’t be bothered to remember her name. After all, they are going to be around forever—and she’s a mere mortal.

Isadora’s sick of living a life where she’s only worthy of a passing glance, and when she has the chance to move to San Diego with her brother, she jumps on it. But Isadora’s quickly finding that a “normal” life comes with plenty of its own epic complications—and that there’s no such thing as a clean break when it comes to family. Much as she wants to leave her past behind, she can’t shake the ominous dreams that foretell destruction for her entire family. When it turns out there may be truth in her nightmares, Isadora has to decide whether she can abandon her divine heritage after all.

My rating: ★★★★★

I read Kiersten's Paranormacly a while ago, but I absolutely loved it! She is just a fantastic writer and I was very excited to read The Chaos of Stars because I am a HUGE fan of mythology! From now until ROGUE's release on September 10th, each stop on the tour will reveal an image that represents a chapter in the book - could refer to setting, plot, an important object, mood, or whatever other diabolical visualizations with which I feel like tormenting my dear readers. Each image also contains a hidden letter...though really, they're not that well hidden. (If you have eyes, you should be able to spot them.) Collect the letters every day, and at the end of the tour I'll hold a contest, the winner of which will receive signed and annotated copies of the complete trilogy. (For a complete description of the contest, tour schedule, and links to the stops you might have missed, check out the blog tour page on my website.)

This photo is for Chapter 18. I will let the image do the talking.

Thanks for having me! Good luck everyone!

Blurb: Teenage Grim Reaper Lex’s power to Damn souls is getting out of control. She's a fugitive, on the run from the maniacal new mayor of Croak and the townspeople who want to see her pay the price for her misdeeds. Uncle Mort rounds up the Junior Grims to flee Croak once again, but this time they're joined by Grotton, the most powerful Grim of all time. Their new mission is clear: fix his mistakes, or the Afterlife will cease to exist, along with all the souls in it.

The gang heads for Necropolis, the labyrinth-like capital city of the Grimsphere. There, they discover that the Grimsphere needs a reboot. To do that, the portals to the Afterlife must be destroyed...but even that may not be enough to fix the damage. Things go from bad to worse, and when at last the fate of the Afterlife and all the souls of the Damned hang in the balance, it falls to Lex and her friends to make one final, impossible choice.

And now for the giveaway! One lucky winner will receive a Croak prize pack: 3 signed bookmarks, 3 signed bookplates, 3 magnets, and a scythe pendant. Oh my! SO much reaper goodness! AND it's international! Woot!
