Literary Nails: The Chaos of Stars by Kiersten White

Hey guys! Ready to see some more (super glittery!) book-inspired nail art?

This week's bookish nail art was inspired by...

The Chaos of Stars by Kiersten White

Ta-da! So this design came to me a couple of weeks ago when I had recently bought a couple of nail polishes. I bought a navy blue polish as well as a matching blue glitter polish. Originally I was just going to paint my nails a simple blue, no bookish nail art in mind, but after I painted my nails with the blue glitter polish it immediately reminded me of The Chaos of Stars, a book I absolutely LOVED!

So I then decided I might as well turn it into something bookish... it would be SO easy! Just add a couple of stars and some gold accents and you're done! I think this design is really cute and something you can dress up as you wish and just wear for fun! However, after I finished it, it actually seemed kind of busy... I mean, do you think that's too much glitter? Are the stars kind of too chunky? I don't know... But overall, I'm really pleased with how it came out.

This design was very simple... I first painted my nails with the navy polish as a base color to the blue glitter polish. Glitter polishes aren't usually opaque, so that's why I first did a coat of the solid blue (also, glitter polish is a bitch to take off, so I thought this would help, lol). Then I did a coat of the blue glitter polish, which to my surprise was actually pretty opaque! Then I took a couple of silver stars, that I had also recently bought, painted them gold, then used some clear polish to "glue" them onto my nails. After that, I filled in the center of the star with the same gold polish using a really small dotting tool, then it was just a matter of adding a couple of gold dots (again, with the same gold glitter nail polish) and a top coat.

What I used:

The base coat: Revlon Quick Dry Base Coat

The "glue" (to stick on the stars): SinfulColors Clear Coat

The top coat: Seche Vite Dry Fast Top Coat

The colors: SinfulColors Cold Leather (the navy blue base color which surprisingly dries matte! I guess that's why it's called "Cold Leather," lol), Blue Steel (the blue glitter polish) | Wet n' Wild Fergie Gold Album (the gold glitter polish)

AND the stars I used:

They're silver, but I painted them with the gold nail polish from above. I have a star-glitter polish I could've used that actually has gold stars...

... but I just really wanted to try out the new ones I had gotten! Instead of using embellishments or glitter, you could also hand-draw the stars using a very small dotting tool, nail art brush, or even a toothpick!

Bonus: Wedding Nails

So this little design I wore back in November for a wedding. I did a purple-to-gold gradient then used striping tape to make the black lines. I painted my ring finger gold then used the striping tape to make these v-shape, things lol. I finished it off with a matte top coat simply because I was out of my shiny top coat (and the other cheap one I had smears my designs terribly! Ugh!) I designed this manicure after the dress I wore that day, which had a black sequins, chevron-type bodice with a purple high-low skirt. For a girl who doesn't like wearing dresses, I actually really love this one!

So, what do you think? Did I nail it? ;)

The Chaos of Stars is actually an Egyptian mythology read, so if you're participating in the Mythology Reading Challenge, this is one book I highly recommend!

As always, let me know in the comments below if you have any suggestions for future posts!
