Synopsis:

Halloween has arrived and so has everyone’s favorite ghost: Rachel. Invited to a Halloween party, Mel and her friends hope to enjoy a night of fun. The party soon turns sour when a man turns up dead during a murder mystery game.

While Detective Shorts is busy questioning everyone who attended the party, Mel and her friends start their own investigation. Soon they find themselves digging into secrets best forgotten—the hostess’ mysterious sister and a lost will—and an underground tunnel that the murderer used to sneak into the mansion. Will Mel be able to solve this case before the night ends and the killer disappears?

My rating: ★★★★☆

It's party time!

Halloween has come around and Mel, Greg, and Jackie have been invited to a Halloween party. Oh yeah, and Rachel tags along too (yup, she's back)! Everybody is having a great time when suddenly, one of the guests is killed right then and there, in front of everyone! Detective Shorts and some other officers in blue show up and start interrogating the guests, trying to figure out what the heck happened at the party. Mel herself stays out of it and lets the police do their job... HA! Did you actually fall for that? Because she totally did not do that, lol. Detective Shorts has pretty much resigned himself to getting Mel's help whether he likes it or not, so Mel goes off to investigate the murder her own way, with the help of her friends, of course. Drunk ghosts, evil twins (maybe?), and lost money... oh my!

Synopsis:

While working at the Candle Shoppe, a man rushes in demanding to speak to Mel. He tells her that someone is trying to kill him and then drops dead. Though the coroner informs her it was a heart attack, Mel cannot get the man’s words out of her head.

Soon she is drawn to an abandoned inn that dates back to 1688 and the legend of Smiley’s Ghost. With the help of her friends, Mel explores the abandoned inn and soon finds herself being harassed by a black rider on a horse. Knowing that all is not as it seems, Mel must discover the secret of Smiley’s Ghost and the inn before she becomes the killer’s next target.

My rating: ★★★★☆

Back in town, some guy stumbles into the Candle Shoppe, frantic. He comes up to Mel and tells her that someone is out to get him, that someone wants to kill him. And then, suddenly, he drops dead... Literally. Detective Shorts once again tells Mel to stay out of it... But does she listen? Of course not, she's Mel! Haha. She feels compelled to unravel this mystery. I mean, this guy specifically sought her out, that's strange in and of itself, so yeah this piqued her interest. She soon finds herself immersed in an urban legend about a ghost named Smiley that, if you see him, you'll find yourself facing imminent death.

Dragons exist. They’re ferocious. And, in this novel from C. J. Hill, they’re smart: before they were killed off by slayer-knights, they rendered a select group of eggs dormant so their offspring would survive. Only a handful of people know about this, let alone believe it—these “Slayers” are descended from the original knights and are now a diverse group of teens that includes Tori, a smart but spoiled senator’s daughter who didn’t sign up to save the world.

The dragon eggs have fallen into the wrong hands. The Slayers must work together to stop the eggs from hatching. They will fight; they will fall in love. But will they survive?

My rating: ★★★★★

Tori has always been fascinated with dragons, so she is ecstatic when her parents finally let her go to this dragon camp, but boy does she not know what she’s getting herself into! Turns out, amid the normal dragon-enthusiast campers, there are a handful of super special, elite campers that do more than the normal camp stuff... They’re Dragon Slayers!! And guess what, Tori just happens to be one of them! Tori must train hard to help the others protect the country from dragons that will inevitably attack. But Tori has many doubts: are the others crazy? Are dragons really, well, real? Does she even have powers? Should she just forget everything and go home? All these questions float around in her mind (and then some), but will she be able to pull herself together in time the help the others when the time comes?
