Top 5 Disappointing Books of 2025

Most of these books I gave 3-ish stars to, so not too bad, but they were books I was excited to read. There was one book I gave 2 stars to that isn't listed here because it really wasn't a disappointment when my expectations for it weren't set that high 😂 I also don't want to talk about that book anymore 😆 Lol.

There was something just very boring about Salvation Day. I had previously DNFd a different book by this author for the same reason, so even though they had great premises, I guess now I know that her books are just not for me 🤷‍♀️

I loved League of Liars! I gave it 5 stars! Unfortunately I gave the sequel only 3.5 stars. I just found it to be a lot less intriguing than the previous book. It made me so sad ☹️

The Deep was another book with a good premise and a meh execution. Another uninteresting, slow one.

These next two books are both cozy mysteries, and I'm starting to wonder if they're just not for me. The first book is set in a town that is Halloween-themed all year round! A town that was inspired by the irl town where Halloweentown (one of my favorite Halloween movies) was filmed! So yeah, I was disappointed when the mystery was predictable and the overall book was just kinda boring. Not even the setting saved it 😩

As for the last book, the two things that excited me about this book was the library society and the demon hunting. Friends, neither of those things really happened! It was wild! There was no actual society (they met, like, once!), and the demon plot line was relegated to back burner stuff! And it was also boring 🤷‍♀️ So much lost potential 😩

Were there any books you read this year that were disappointing? Let me know (so I can stay away from them 😆)!

Happy Holidays! 😊

  1. ahhh I'm gonna have to remove League of Liars from my TBR because the more I think about it, the less I wanna read it 😅 I truly wanted to give it a try, but...life's too short for something that doesn't excite me.

The "cozy" genre is truly a hit or miss for me, so I'm not surprised you also didn't have a great time with it. I think, us, adrenaline junkies, need a lot of elements done just right to have fun with a book that doesn't have a "too exciting" plot. Either the characters have to be so amazing, or there needs to be something specific present that we love e.g. the library society and the demon hunting not truly being a part of the plot is dissapointing 😅 So far, only one or maybe two cozy books have been just right for me, otherwise I find them boring 😂😂

  2. I think I tried a Nick Cutter book a while back, they sounded so good, but then I couldn't get into it. I do like this topic, I might have to add a Top 10 with this. Hmm, maybe I'll make it my last discussion post that I need to meet my challenge! Sorry these didn't work out for you.
