Synopsis:

Morgan Marks is the new girl—and nobody can stop talking about her. She’s popular, smart, and beautiful. Everyone wants to be her friend. But her past is veiled in mystery, and no one, not even her boyfriend Ben, knows where exactly she came from. But Shadyside Homecoming is just around the corner. And Morgan’s dark secrets are about to be dug up for all the world to see.

My rating: ★★★☆☆

You all know how much I love Fear Street, so I absolutely loved having these new books in my life. I really enjoyed the first two books in this new series, but this one... it was just okay 🤷‍♀️

I’m gonna be honest, I was a little impatient there in the beginning because we actually started the book NOT in Shadyside. I was really confused because this IS a Fear Street book yet there was no mention of it or Shadyside at all in the beginning. There are many other Fear Street books in the OG series that take place not in Shadyside, but usually always in the beginning they mention how one of the characters is from Shadyside or lives on Fear Street or whatever, so I’ve never been impatient with those. This book, however, doesn’t mention Shadyside High until page 72! That’s nearly 25% into the book! Anyway, it was a little annoying.

And then the mystery behind Morgan and her past... not as exciting as I thought it would be. And that twist... I wasn't expecting it.

Overall, this book was just... fine. The mystery wasn’t terribly interesting because we pretty much knew everything just over halfway into the book. And with all the little clues here and there you pretty much knew what Morgan’s huge secret was. The characters were also very meh. I hated all the guys—they sucked! This Winks dude, for example, was arrogant as hell, and not in the charming way I attribute to Jace from The Mortal Instruments. This guy was just UGH!

I don't like it. (Supernatural) | Reaction GIFs

And the girls were okay, but not terribly interesting. And then the fact that this takes place NOT in Shadyside.... Well, I wasn’t a big fan. There was a supernatural twist which I appreciated, but didn’t really love. But I do love when magic and actual members of the Fear family are involved, though! That being said, I highly recommend the first book in this series, You May Now Kill the Bride—it’s definitely my favorite of the trilogy! And that one also had a supernatural twist, one I actually enjoyed 😅

The Fear Street connection: There was an actual Fear is this book! YES!

The Fears know how to cheat death.

  1. I know how much you love these books so what a disappointment for you in this book. I'm really surprised the author couldn't come up with a better plot or bigger twist to surprise you. Hopefully your next one will be way better.

    1. Yeah it was very strange! Especially having figured out everything only halfway into the book. Although at the very end there was another plot twist I didn't remember until now... it was pretty cool.
