Synopsis:

Calder White lives in the cold, clear waters of Lake Superior, the only brother in a family of murderous mermaids. To survive, Calder and his sisters prey on humans, killing them to absorb their energy. But this summer the underwater clan targets Jason Hancock out of pure revenge. They blame Hancock for their mother's death and have been waiting a long time for him to return to his family's homestead on the lake. Hancock has a fear of water, so to lure him in, Calder sets out to seduce Hancock's daughter, Lily. Easy enough—especially as Calder has lots of practice using his irresistable good looks and charm on ususpecting girls. Only this time Calder screws everything up: he falls for Lily—just as Lily starts to suspect that there's more to the monsters-in-the-lake legends than she ever imagined. And just as his sisters are losing patience with him.

My rating: ★★★★☆

Quick summary: Calder and his mermaid sisters want revenge for the death of their mother. The man who caused her death will pay...but in order to lure this man to the lake, Calder must get close to one of his daughters. This is strictly for "business," of course, but could Calder be developing genuine feelings for Lily?

I really liked this book! I have not read too many mermaid books, but as a kid I was a HUGE fan of The Little Mermaid! I loved that in this book the mermaids weren't...what's the word I'm looking for?? Innocent. I really liked the dark twist: murderous mermaids. You don't hear that very often, lol. But I liked it because it was different...sometimes different is good (and refreshing!)

I also really liked that there wasn't an instant attraction between Calder and Lily. You know how in some books the main character sees this hot guy/girl (who becomes their love interest) and just from that first meeting their all like, "Oh, I think I'm in love!" It's totally cheesy and not very realistic! Well, that didn't happen here! In fact, Calder kinda freaked Lily out (which I found kind of amusing, lol!) Again, different = good :)

Overall, I thought it was a great read! And that twisty ending that I'm dying to mention but wont because it contains spoilers...Oh my gods, I did NOT see coming! I LOVE surprise endings! I really can't wait to see what happens in the next book!

Have you read this book? If so, what did you think about it? If not, what do you think? Does it sound like something you might want to read? Leave me a comment! :)
