Synopsis: Strep throat! Hay fever! Influenza! The world is a dangerous place for a red blood cell just trying to get her deliveries finished. Fortunately, she’s not alone... she’s got a whole human body’s worth of cells ready to help out! The mysterious white blood cell, the buff and brash killer T cell, the nerdy neuron, even the cute little platelets — everyone’s got to come together if they want to keep you healthy!

My rating: ★★★★★

In this volume of Cells at Work!, we looked at the circulatory system, the common cold, and acquired immunity. As someone who loves medical science, I love this series and the way it describes things!

In the first chapter, Red Blood Cell vows to get through the circulatory system at least once without getting lost because she does that a lot. Lol. I loved this chapter SO much! Especially because this girl is a magnet for trouble, and White Blood Cell, knowing this, decides to sneakily follow her on her route to make sure she doesn’t find herself in any danger. It was so cute and wholesome! I just love how sweet and supportive he is! And I particularly love that juxtaposition with his more bloody and violent side that comes out when he’s taking down a threat. I just love this combo of this series in general, and I think it’s really well done!

The common cold chapter was also fun, and it was a chapter I related to heavily because at the time I was reading that part, I was also sick. Lol. Literally, my blood cells were fighting for their lives as well... Very relatable 😆 And the acquired immunity chapter talked about vaccines, and it broke down how they work in a really consumable way. I liked it!

And I liked this volume overall! I love the stories and how well they explain medical science in a fun, entertaining way with shockingly likable characters.
