Literary Nails: Spartan Heart (Mythos Academy Spinoff #1) by Jennifer Estep

Only took me about a year to get another bookish nail art design out 😅 lol.

Today I have some nail art inspired by...

Spartan Heart (Mythos Academy: Colorado #1)
Spartan Heart (Mythos Academy Spinoff #1)
by Jennifer Estep

Released: December 5th, 2017

New school year, same old problems...
At Mythos Academy, everyone knows exactly who I am: Rory Forseti, Spartan girl and the daughter of Reapers.

Even though I fought alongside my cousin Gwen Frost to save the mythological world from Loki and his evil Reapers of Chaos, I’m still the most hated girl at the academy because of all the horrible things my parents did. I had hoped that this school year would be different, but the other kids just won’t let me forget about my parents.

But something strange is going on at the Colorado academy. First, I run into a Viking guy who dislikes me more than most. Then I notice some odd artifacts in the Library of Antiquities. And worst of all, I start hearing rumors about a new group of Reapers who can summon mythological monsters.

I might be the most hated girl at Mythos Academy, but I’m also the only one who can save it...

 Spartan Heart

Ta-da!

Achieving this nail design was... it was quite a journey. I bought a black chrome powder specifically for this design, and I used it with gel polish, then added all my designs on top and it looked amazing! But then I go to put on the final top coat... and it ALL SMEARED! 😩 It made me so sad because it looked beautiful! But I had to redo it all! However, I don't like gel polish because it is such a pain to take off, so on round two I used regular polish and no chrome powder, unfortunately. And this was the result. But overall, I think it turned out pretty well!

This time around, I used a regular metallic-y gray polish... it's Supernatural 😉 You know how much I love that TV show! But in this case, this nail polish was the perfect base color! After that, I used some nail vinyls and black polish to achieve the swirly patterns. I didn't have anything that was exactly like the book cover, so these vinyls were the closest thing I had. And remember, I'm not good at freehand. Lol.

And then I just stamped the hearts on top of that! (And some cool swords too...)

Here are the things I used:

Basecoat: Superchic Lacquer - Bring It On Base Coat
Gray base color: Hunter's Helper - 1967 (Limited Edition polish 😩)
Red shimmer accent color: Hunter's Helper - Demon Blood (Also a Limited Edition polish 😩)
Black Polish: SinfulColors - Black on Black (Can be found at any drug store)
Silver stamping polish: Bundle Monster - So Metal
Top coat: Superchic Lacquer - Marvel Liquid Macro Top Coat

For the nail vinyls, I used the following thorn ones:

Whats Up Nails - Thorns Stencils

And for the heart I used the medium heart outline (which I then filled with the red shimmer polish) in the following stamping plate:

And for the cute swords I, appropriately, used this Greek mythology themed stamping plate!

And that's it! It only took like 100 products to get this done... no big deal 😉 Lol. No, I actually enjoy doing nail art, even if it does take a while.

I definitely think it was worth it in the end because I am very happy with how they turned out! I do wish I would used the black chrome powder--it would loved even more amazing! But that gel polish man, I hate it! Lol. These Supernatural polishes on the other hand, I am in love with! I wear them all the time! Demon Blood is one of my favorite polishes ever!

And surprise! I didn't use any holographic polishes in this design! Who am I?! Lol.

If you have not checked out this book yet, you HAVE TO! It is amazing! If you love Jennifer Estep's Mythos Academy series as much as I do, this is a must read book, as it takes place in the same world! Eeeeeep!

You can also check out my review of Spartan Heart here!

And there you have it! Spartan Heart nails! The book cover actually gives you a little glimpse into something very importnat happens in the book, so I thought that was very cool!

So, what do you think? Did I nail it? 😜

    1. Thank you! It usually takes me a couple hours... probably 3 or so. Sometimes I break up the design and will do the base color one day and then the actual design the next.
