Literary Nails: Percy Jackson

I have been reading a lot of Percy Jackson lately, so last weekend I did some nail art lightly inspired by that.

When I say lightly, I mean lightly 😂 It's literally just a trident. BUT I hand drew the trident, which I never do! I am proud of myself because it actually looks pretty decent. Lol.

I was actually going to do a stamp because that's just easier. But the trident stamp I have was way too big for my nails (which you can see on the white roller), so I decided to hand draw it instead. I was originally going to draw it in a silver holo with blue shimmer, but I thought that was just going to get lost in the base polish I was going to use, so instead I went with a gold polish and switched to an even tinier brush to draw it.

So I pulled out one of my Percy Jackson books and used the trident on the cover as inspiration, and made two trident decals on my nail art mat. Like I said, I don't hand draw a lot just because I don't think I'm good at it, but making decals instead of drawing straight on my nails is SO much easier, and I think they turned out pretty okay!

And these are the nail polishes I used:

Holo Taco - Long-Lasting Base
Holo Taco - Spyglass
Hit the Bottle - A Glint of Gold
Holo Taco - Super Glossy Taco

It's very subtle nail art, especially for me, but I love the base color and I wanted it to have its main character moment, if you will. Lol. It's just a very pretty light blue holo with a blue shimmer and I just love it! I feel like Percy would approve of the color 😆

So what do you think? Did I nail it? 😜

  1. It looks great! I love that you were able to freehand it, then use a roller to transfer it to your nail. Brilliant! I'm getting polish done in June and I'd love to do something subtly bookish. I follow Jennie at The Nail Coven, and her bookish nails are intimidatingly good, so I never thought of it as something I could do, myself.

    1. Oh yeah, no. There are nail artists out there who are amazing!! I'm an amateur. I typically get by with stamps and nail vinyls 😂 Hand painting for me is difficult, but a trident is a pretty easy to draw image, so I lucked out! But definitely do try it out! I love doing nail art! There is definitely a learning curve, but it is so much fun!
