Synopsis:

Her friends warn her not to go to Brendan Fear's birthday party at his family's estate on mysterious Fear Island. But Rachel Martin has a crush on Brendan and is excited to be invited. Brendan has a lot of party games planned. But one game no one planned intrudes on his party—the game of murder. As the guests start dying one by one, Rachel realizes to her horror that she and the other teenagers are trapped on the tiny island with someone who may want to kill them all. How to escape this deadly game? Rachel doesn't know whom she can trust. She should have realized that nothing is as it seems… on Fear Island.

R.L. Stine makes his triumphant return to Shadyside, a town of nightmares, shadows, and genuine terror, and to the bestselling series that began his career writing horror for the juvenile market, in the new Fear Street book Party Games.

My rating: ★★★★☆

Fear Street... My childhood revisited :) I was SO excited when I found out that Mr. Stine was going to be writing 3 new Fear Street books! How excited? Well...

Charlie

Why was I dancing around and fangirling like an idiot? Long story short: R.L. Stine's Fear Street books were some of the first books to really get me into reading when I was in middle school. R.L. Stine has not written one single Fear Street book for almost 20 YEARS!! And now he is coming out with 3 new ones? So yeah, I was pretty excited when I found out! I was even more excited when my request through Netgalley was approved! YAY! *clears throat* Okay, let's see if I can make my fangirl thoughts into something coherent...

Rachel has had a crush on Brendan Fear for a while now, so when he invites her to his very exclusive birthday party on Fear Island, she is ecstatic to go! However, her friends warn her about going, reminding Rachel of the Fear family curse. Rachel doesn't care; she's sure no such thing is real, so she goes. Everyone's having fun with the party games Brendan crafted himself... up until kids start turning up dead and the party games take a sinister turn. Stuck on the island, Rachel and the rest of the kids at the party freak out, trying to find a way off the island while trying to not be the killers next victim. Dun, dun, DUN!

So I gotta admit, this book was pretty darn awesome! It was so nice to get back into the Fear Street world that is so familiar to me! I love horror novels all thanks to R.L. Stine! It had a ton of suspense, and of course, lets not forget about the mystery behind the killings. R.L. Stine is amazing at making you think one thing and then BAM! It was actually something else! And Party Games was no exception! I was totally not expecting the murders to... well, turn out that way. It was crazy! But then something else happened... a second plot line that appeared out of nowhere! I was not expecting that either, and honestly I was a little disappointed by it =/ Especially since it didn't really have to do with the primary plot line of the murders at Brendan's party. I was kinda blindsided by it and I was like, "Where the hell did that come from??"

But besides that, it was so awesomely written! I really enjoyed it a lot! I loved all the creepy deaths and twisty turns and surprises! I am so happy that there are two more books coming in the Fear Street series and I cannot wait to read those as well!

The Fear Street connection: We get an actual Fear! Yay! So Brandan Fear is having a birthday party on Fear Island. The Only other book I have read so far that takes place on Fear Island is The Overnight, and that definitely did not have mansion in sight, so I'm guessing this family home Brendan takes his friends to was built only recently.

Have you read this book? If so, what did you think about it? If not, what do you think? Does it sound like something you might want to read? Leave me a link to your review or comment below! :)

  1. It's fantastic when a book comes out in a series you've loved for a long long time and even better when the book doesn't disappoint and keeps you engaged and guessing! Bummer about the "out of the blue" secondary plot line but glad it didn't bother you too much!
    Great review, Lili!

  2. Oh wow I'm so happoy to see this! I was a HUGE fan of the Fear Street books and read like 40 of them before I started HS. I was a bit wary about this one though since It's been so long and I'm not much older I figured it might be a bit on the cheesy side and the mystery, obvious. But it sounds like it's just as good as they were! I love it when the twist really takes you off guard! Great review, Lili!
