Synopsis:

If there is one thing eighteen-year-old Aurora Sky wants, it’s to get off the iceberg she calls home. Being kissed before she graduates wouldn’t hurt either.

Then a near-fatal car wreck changes everything. Government agents step in and save Aurora’s life in exchange for her services as a vampire hunter. In Alaska. Basically she’s a glorified chew toy. All thanks to her rare blood type, which sends a vampire into temporary paralysis right before she has to finish the job… by hand.

Now Aurora’s only friends are groupies of the undead and the only boy she can think about may very well be a vampire. And if he’s a vampire, will she be forced to kill him?

For ages 18+

My rating: ★★★★☆

First of all, can I just say how pretty that cover is! Love it!

As for the book itself, I really liked it! I thought it was quite entertaining and action-y (though more action would've been nice, too.) It literally made me laugh out loud in some parts...I really love a book that can earn me weird looks from family members when I laugh out loud :)

The concept of the story was very interesting and unique, and kept me wondering how things would turn out. I would've liked for there to be more vampire hunting though. But, of course, this is only the beginning for Aurora.

And my favorite part of the book? The vampirism! It's just so unique and different from anything else I've read! I really like that Nikki brought something new to the table pertaining to vampires and vampire hunting. Reading something different once in a while is definitely refreshing! And now that I think about it, the vampire hunters's ability to paralyze the vamps with their blood kinda reminds me of the gorgons from Greek mythology...you know, Medusa's sisters. It is said that the blood in one half of their bodies is poisonous, while the other half heals. Now which half is it? Right? Left? I don't remember. But I doubt the poisonous half would paralyze you...it would probably kill you. I just had to get that out there...I loves mythology :)

The characters:

Fane...I like him, but I'm not overly crazy about him. He's a nice, caring guy...he just didn't completely wow me.

But ohmygods I love Dante! He is just so adorable and so happy and bubbly!

We didn't really get to see much of the "before" Aurora (but we know that she was timid and shy), but the "new" Aurora confused me a bit. After her transformation she was all numb and...emotionless, which I understand. And then she's all rebellious practically from one day to the next. But I guess a first vampire attack can do that to a girl. Anyway, her rebelliousness confused me, and her sudden changes in attitude were giving me, I felt, a whiplash. And then there were other times when I actually liked the "new" Aurora. She was snarky and stood up for herself, which I was so very happy about! Aurora was a very conflicting character for me...sometimes she confused me, sometimes I liked her...she was just all over the place.

Oh, I also liked Noel...awesome supporting character! :)

In the end, though, I think the characters were pretty likable.

Overall, it was a very enjoyable read! It wasn't exactly what I expected, but I liked it nonetheless. Who would I recommend this to? Well, definitely anyone who loves vampire books! Especially if you're tire of the same-old same-old vampires.

Oh! But I should probably mention that there is a sex scene and steamy make outs and other unsuitable stuff for younger readers. Just thought I should warn you since I'm a picky reader myself and don't like descriptive sex scenes. However, in this book, it was just so awkwardly hilarious that I didn't know whether to feel bad for Aurora or just laugh...so I did both! I seriously could not stop giggling!

Have you read this book? If so, what did you think about it? If not, what do you think? Does it sound like something you might want to read? Leave me a comment! :)
