Synopsis:
Ellie Jordan’s job is to catch and remove unwanted ghosts. Part detective, part paranormal exterminator, Ellie operates out of Savannah, Georgia, one of the oldest and most haunted cities in North America.
When a family contacts her to deal with a disturbing presence in the old mansion they’ve recently purchased, Ellie first believes it to be a typical, by-the-book specter, a residual haunting by a restless spirit. Instead, she finds herself confronting an evil older and more powerful than she’d ever expected, rooted in the house’s long and sordid history of luxury, sin, and murder. The dangerous entity seems particularly interested in her clients’ ten-year-old daughter.
Soon her own life is in danger, and Ellie must find a way to exorcise the darkness of the house before it can kill her, her clients, or their frightened young child.
When I read this book, I had already read two horror novels before this one. I was on a horror novel reading streak, you could say, and Ellie Jordan, Ghost Trapper really satisfied my need for even more horror!
It wasn't super scary, per se, but it did have that creepy factor going on. I just love ghost stories! They are some of my favorite stories to read about! While the concept of a haunted house is not very original (but I don't mind, I love it! :D), I gotta say, this one was very well done! I really loved the idea of "trapping" ghosts and removing them from the house. It was really cool and I was very intrigued to see how that was actually possible. Turns out they just have some really awesome technology! That was one of my favorite things about the book! The cube they used to to trap the ghosts and how it worked, the EMF (that's Electromagnetic Field, for all you non-ghost hunting experts ;)) detectors, the thermal cameras, etc. It had a Ghost Hunters sort of feel to it, which I thought was pretty cool since I love that show!
I really liked Ellie! She was a very strong, brave, and kind of fearless! I mean, not completely fearless, 'cause, come on! Her job is kind of creepy! But she is very dedicated to her job and helping this poor family rid their new home of the evils that lie within. I really admire her for doing that. I also liked Stacey! She was very bubbly, a lot of fun, and very enthusiastic about her job! And when I mean enthusiastic, I mean she's a huge fan of the supernatural and has not been in this job long enough to be scared out of her wits. Just wait for it, Stacey, just wait ;) And the psychic guy, Jacob, he was pretty awesome too! We didn't get to see too much of him in this book, but he seems really cool and kinda funny, so I'm hoping we'll get to see more of him later! And let's not forget about the little girl Lexa! She was the cutest thing ever! And I really felt for her since the ghost seemed most intent on the poor little girl (me having 10-year-old twin brothers... I don't want no ghost messing with my little bros!).
I really enjoyed this read with all haunting and ghosts, suspense, interesting story, and all the cool gadgets and techniques Ellie and her team used the expel the spirits! I am really looking forward for more of Elli Jordan and the Ghost Trapper team! I highly recommend this one to anyone who loves a good ghost story with a Ghost Hunters feel to it. Best of all, although the characters themselves are in their early 20s, this is a novel that can be read and enjoyed by anyone!
