Synopsis:
Though the Greek and Roman crewmembers of the Argo II have made progress in their many quests, they still seem no closer to defeating the earth mother, Gaea. Her giants have risen—all of them—and they're stronger than ever. They must be stopped before the Feast of Spes, when Gaea plans to have two demigods sacrificed in Athens. She needs their blood—the blood of Olympus—in order to wake.
The demigods are having more frequent visions of a terrible battle at Camp Half-Blood. The Roman legion from Camp Jupiter, led by Octavian, is almost within striking distance. Though it is tempting to take the Athena Parthenos to Athens to use as a secret weapon, the friends know that the huge statue belongs back on Long Island, where it "might" be able to stop a war between the two camps.
The Athena Parthenos will go west; the Argo II will go east. The gods, still suffering from multiple personality disorder, are useless. How can a handful of young demigods hope to persevere against Gaea's army of powerful giants? As dangerous as it is to head to Athens, they have no other option. They have sacrificed too much already. And if Gaea wakes, it is game over.
So, in this book, the demigods are trying to get the Athena Parthenos to Camp Half-Blood before all hell breaks loose and an all out war is started... all while trying to keep Gaea from waking up fully.
This book was amazing and the perfect ending to this wonderful series! My only complaint: IT’S OVER!! NOOOOO! *sobs* At the time of finishing this I had no idea about The Trials of Apollo, but now that that’s out in the world, I’m happy. We still get to live in the Percy Jackson world and visit those characters all while following my most favorite Greek god ever, APOLLO! YES!!
I loved the Percy/Jason dynamic and the love/hate relationship going on. It was great! Another relationship I loved that is still on the bloom Nico and Will! A son of Hades and a son of the sunshiny Apollo! I LOVE IT! Even before I read this book I kept seeing Sloangelo all over Tumblr and Pinterest, and now, yes, I totally ship them! I ship them so hard! I also loved that Piper broke the stereotype of being a child of Aphrodite. She is the exact opposite of what you would think and I love her for it! She is just amazing! Another character I really liked that I wasn't really a fan of in the beginning was Reyna. We got a little bit more backstory on her and I really loved exploring her past and seeing why she was the way she was. One relationship I wasn’t the biggest fan of was Leo and Calypso’s, and I actually love Leo! Besides Percy, Leo has got to be my favorite character in this series! And it’s also weird because, for some reason, I think I was okay with this relationship in the previous book... but not this one. It’s so weird. I guess Leo just seemed SO freaking obsessed with her that it seemed almost a bit forced. I didn’t like it =/
The ending was so heartbreaking. I hate to say goodbye to this wonderful series. But at the same time, I feel like it wrapped up nicely. It was a great ending to a great series and I am going to miss these characters and the adventures and fun they had. But I am also glad to know that this will definitely not be the last we see of the demigods, and that makes me happy! So, if you have not read this series, get on it! It’s amazing! And it has mythology! Mythology is also amazing :)

*sob* one of my kids was room-cleaning and came out with an armful of Rick Riordan books. I guess I will have to find a spot for them!
