Synopsis:

For fourteen-year-old Eve Hallows, life can be summed up in one word—horrible. She has the most horrible friends. She lives in a horrible old castle. Even her family is a bunch of horrible monsters.

However, in the monster-inhabited world of Gravesville—a world where messages are sent through Ouija boards, jack-o’-lanterns get facials to suit their moods, and the worst thing Eve has to deal with are those annoying zombie tourists who overrun her favorite graveyard during the Halloween season—horrible means wonderful. And everything for Eve is perfectly horrible.

But her life is about to go head over heels when a mysterious group known as The Source starts terrorizing Gravesville. Now she must move to the human world—where everything is opposite ... and for Eve, that's absolutely adorable!

My rating: ★★★★★

So, lately, I've been in a terrible reading slump. I mean, I wanted to read, but I just felt no motivation to do so! So I went through all my unread books (that's 100+ both paperback and e-books) to see which one caught my attention and would hopefully help me out of this slump. And the winner? Eve Hallows and the Book of Shrieks!!! This is exactly what I needed! It was just sooo adorable (and not in the way that Eve uses the word, lol) and funny and sooo entertaining that I could not put the book down!

You see, Eve is the only human living in a world full of monsters. Her mom is a gorgon, her dad a shape-shifter, and her little brother a ghoul. After several monsters are murdered, her family decided to move from Gravesville to the human world for safety, but also to find out who the murderer is. They need to figure out who this killer is before Eve and her family become the next target.

I absolutely loved the characters! The monsters were very amusing when in the human world. Even though Eve and her family were more than a bit out of place in the human world, Eve turned out to be a very strong and brave character! I like strong leading female characters :) Sure she got some help from her friends (both humans and monsters), but she was no damsel in distress. In fact, she was the one doing the saving! Pffft, damsels in distress are sooo last century!

The story itself was awesome and kept me interested all the way through. I do love a good mystery ;) You just want to find out who the murderer is, and let me tell you, it was all very surprising at the end! And Warren...*sigh* I can't believe that happened...that's all I'm saying.

Anyway, overall, I absolutely LOVED the world Robert Gray created! I am a huge fan of anything Halloween/monster related! In fact, Halloween is my fave holiday!

I am very excited to see what Eve's next adventure has in store for her, and what new creatures we will meet. Yeah, more monsters!

Have you read this book? If so, what did you think about it? If not, what do you think? Does it sound like something you might want to read? Leave me a comment! :)
