Synopsis:
Sometimes you have to fight black magic with blacker magic. But in trying to save the people she loves, will Audrey fall into the dark abyss that claimed her father?
In Book II of the Audrey's Guide series, Audrey learns about her witchy roots and continues to fight her nemesis; this time she must dig deeper than ever, experimenting with dark magic to combat the insidious enchantment that's invaded her newfound community. She travels to the magical compound on the Mad River, the home her mother fled twenty years ago. Here Audrey meets her grandmother, the powerful matriarch of the Clan, and a host of colorful characters, some friends, some foes. When a sinister force begins to take over the magical community, Audrey must decide how far she's willing to go to protect the people she loves.
I was lucky enough to beta read this book, and all I can say is: this book was aweeesooome *sing songs*! The magic, the witches, the JULIAN! *swoons*
If you don't know by now, and you probably should because I've mentioned this about a million and half times, I absolutely love witches and magic and witchcraft! Witches are just some of my fave supernatural creatures and I think it would be awesome to be a witch (yeah, I may watch too many re-runs of Charmed, but hey, I love that show ;)) This book (the series in general!) I thought incorporates the concept of magic beyond well! The special abilities some of the withes can do are just very cool, nothing I really have run into! Take Sadie's power for example, She can talk to any living thing...animal, plants...anything! I'm telling you, Jodi's spin on this magic thing is awesome!
One thing that is super important for me that a book must have right from the start is action! This component is what must capture my attention within the first few pages, otherwise I get bored and, well, that is obviously not a good thing. This book though, BAM BAM BOOM! Action within the 1st two chapters! Yeah! And the action does not let down throughout the book!
Another thing I want to say is that Audrey and Julian are just too sweet for my own good. I swear, they're going to give me a cavity! ;) My gods, the romance between these two...I loved it! And Julian? *swoons* I ADORED him! He's a really sweet guy (I have a weakness for sweet guys!) and I wish I had a Julian of my own *sigh* At one point even I was going through Julian withdrawal! (Read the book and you'll understand what I'm talking about ;))
I also really liked Audrey in this book. She was a very strong and caring leading character that did what needed to be done to protect those she loves.
I also liked the fact that there were new characters. They were great! After so much talk about The Land, I liked that we actually got to "see" it now! And this evil person with the black magic...man, I swear, I was suspecting everyone! Quite a shocker when I found out who it was! It was sad too, 'cause I really liked this character. The traitor!
Audrey's Guide To Black Magic was a fantastic read with a great story line, very awesome and diverse characters (including a swoon-worthy love interest), lots of action, wicked cool magic, and surprising twists that will, well, surprise you! I highly recommend this series!
Have you read this book? If so, what did you think about it? If not, what do you think? Does it sound like something you might want to read? Leave me a comment! :)
