Bookish Discussion: Deciding What Book To Read Next

Hey guys, and welcome to a new post I've been wanting to do for a while now! Discussion posts is something I've had in mind for about a year now (yeah, yikes!), but never really got around to them due to school. Well, school is done and over, so let's get to talkin' books!

This! And let's not forget about that virtual case on my Kindle... oh boy!
This week we're talking about our To-Be-Read lists and the question that has plagued booknerds since the beginning of time: What book should I read next?

But, probably like any other booknerd, my TBR list is more of an enormous, neverending mountain of books! I swear, for every 1 book I read, 3 more are added to the pile... it's neverending I tell you!

To be read pile
I don't know about you, but sometimes I find it challenging choosing my next read, even if I do make a list. Yeah, I actually have a list! But said list, however, only consists of ARCs/Review books/Blog Tour books. And I'll be the first one to admit, I don't stick by that list too often, LOL. Last year I was very strict on following The List. It got to the point where it wasn't even fun anymore! But this year I was like, "Screw it! I'm gonna read what I want, when I want!" and so I've become more of a mood reader. Since that change of mind, I've done a lot more re-reading of some of my favorite books!

What to read next
I still follow my list, though... sort of. I look at The List and tell myself, "Okay, these 3 books are next on my list... Do I feel like reading any of them?" After checking with myself and I'm still not feeling it, I go to each book and read the first couple of sentences and see if that gets me hooked. Sometimes that does that trick, and sometimes it doesn't. When I'm not in the mood for anything from The List, I ditch that and go to my "Just for Fun" books and find one of those to read... which is what I've been doing a lot of lately.

Mmm, probably ;)

Review books do take a priority, but sometimes you gotta throw priority out the window and do what you want. Otherwise, it starts feeling like a job when it's supposed to be fun.

That being said, I swear, I seem to spend more time deciding what to read next than actually reading the book I chose!

So, how do YOU tackle your TBR pile and decide what to read next? Are you a list-maker? A mood reader? Or do you close your eyes and point (so to speak)? Let me know in the comments below, or feel free to link me up to a post you've done yourself!

  1. I have a list made, and I follow it depening on my mood too! If I am doing ok and have time or I'm pressed to read something for a blog tour or something I'll be very strict with myself, if not or I'm feeling low... I'll just pick something I really want to read, be it from the review list, the TBR list or a re-read! I want to find a good equilibrium between being a responsible blogger and enjoying reading cause I love books!
Btw, I love all the GIFs! =D

    1. Oh yes! I totally get that! I am a huge procrastinator, so yeah the BT deadlines sort of kick my butt into gear ;) lol. And equilibrium is always the goal!!

  2. I stumble around. I don't keep a list, although I should. I buy more books than I read and sometimes I'll go to buy a book and discover I bought it already. I should be a lot more organized. I'm currently writing a horror thingy and am reading Joe Hill--horror writer. I'm on my second (NOS4A2 that's the title), and I know I'm going to read a 3rd as soon as I'm done. I'm hooked on Joe right now.
