I've had the pleasure of reading this book already, and let me tell you, if you have not started this series yet you need to get to it...and fast! It's absolutely great! The story has tons of action, romance ;), GREEK MYTHOLOGY (!!!), and lots of amazing supernatural powers! Let's see, we've got someone who can persuade, a mind reader, a healer, people who can move thing with their minds, fire starter, teleporters...and that's just scratching the surface!

If you've been following my blog for some time and have read my reviews (or just read my About Me page!), you already know what my favorite supernatural ability is: Healing. I'm a nursing student, so that makes sense, right? But could you imagine being able to heal someone with a wound/disease with a single touch (or in Elyse's place, with some blood)?! I think that is just amazing!

And I think it is SO cool that Jessica used Asclepius as Elyse's bloodline instead of Apollo. Don't get me wrong, I LOVE Apollo! He is my fave god out of the whole Greek pantheon! The thing is, if I asked you who Asclepius was, would you know what to tell me? The answer is probably not. Now, if I asked you to tell me who Apollo was, what would you say? That he's the Greek sun god, god of music, god of poetry, god of medicine and healing...that one is easy. I really liked that she uses the minor gods that aren't as popular as the big 12. And this doesn't only pertain to Asclepius! There are many other minor gods/goddesses in the series! It's great!

So who is Asclepius, you ask? He is the son of Apollo, who was also the god of medicine. But he was SO good at his job that one time he accidentally brought someone back from the dead! Zeus was SO not happy with this, so he shot Asclepius with a lightning bolt *sad face* But then Apollo avenged his son, so it was all good! Not for the cyclopes though...

"As a surgeon Asklepios (Asclepius) became so skilled in his profession that he not only saved lived but even revived the dead; for he had received from Athena the blood that had coursed though the Gorgon's veins, the left-side portion of which he used to destroy people, but that on the right he used for their preservation, which is how he could revive those who had died. Author Bio: Jessica Therrien is the author of the young adult paranormal fiction series Children of the Gods. Book one in the series, Oppression, was published by ZOVA Books in February of 2012 and became a Barnes & Noble best-seller shortly after its release. The second book in the series, Uprising, will be available in May of 2013.

Aside from her Children of the Gods series, Jessica’s work can also be found in a published collection of flash fiction stories called Campaigner Challenges 2011. Out of over 350 submissions her story, The Soulless, won first place for people’s choice and fourth place in the judging round of Rachael Harrie’s Writing Campaign Challenge. Her story, Saved, is also available as part of the anthology.
