Synopsis:

Sixteen-year-old Zadie’s first mistake was telling the boy she liked she could bring her dead sister back to life. Her second mistake was actually doing it.

When Zadie accidentally messes with the Reaper’s Rite that should have claimed her sister Mara, things go horribly wrong. Mara isn’t the same anymore—Zadie isn’t even sure she’s completely human, and to top it off, a Reaper is determined to collect Mara’s soul no matter what. Now Zadie must figure out how to defeat her sister’s Reaper, or let Mara die … this time for good.

My rating: ★★★★★

Man, this book... SO AWESOME! The magic, the myths, the romance... I loved it all!

With My Sister's Reaper, I came in thinking that this was going to be all about reapers (and it was, kind of... played a big role), but it was totally not what I was expecting! You see, I absolutely LOVE reapers (call me morbid)! Reapers like Lex from Croak, Madison Avery, and Tod from the Soul screamers series *swoons*. But was it a bad thing? NO! I was pleasantly surprised :) I really enjoyed Dorothy's take on Reapers and this thing know as the Reaper’s Rite.

Also, Zadie's got this very special (read: awesome!) ability of willing things to happen... I definitely smelled something witchy here ;) And then I realized that witches and fae are involved in someway that I will not reveal as to not spoil things (though I've already said too much!) and my mind was pretty much blown! Finding out why Zadie was able to do these amazing things and the lore behind everything was just perfect for me because I absolutely LOVE mythology and magic! I really enjoyed learning about all this Slavic stuff I've never heard of before. I just thought it was very interesting and so very creative.

I really liked Zadie and thought she was a very likable character. She just has so much to deal with, like Atlas with a burden on her shoulders (couldn't help it! Mythology reference! :D), and I just felt so bad! But I was so happy when she finally decided to share that burden, though I thought she should've done it way earlier, like, the first chance she had.

Which brings me to Gavin... *swoons* Total crush-worthy love interest who is very mysterious and sweet and I just ADORED him! Zadie and Gavin make such a great couple... and in more ways than one ;)

And then there's Zadie's sister Mara... I don't know about anyone else, but I was terrified of her! She seriously creeped the Hades out of me! But you know what, I can understand why Zadie went through all the things she did for her sister. If I had a sister in the same situation (unlikely to happen because A.) I don't have a sister, B.) I only wish I had magical powers *sigh*, and C.) The only reapers I've come across live in books ;) But IF) I'd do everything I could to save her, just like Zadie did.

To wrap things up, I thought the story was great... totally creepy with tons of magical goodness and action and romance to keep you engaged. And that cover is just as creepy and captivating as the book was... I love it!

I highly recommend this book, especially if you're wanting something different in a supernatural read that also has a splash of romance.

Have you read this book? If so, what did you think about it? If not, what do you think? Does it sound like something you might want to read? Leave me a comment! :)
