Hi guys! Welcome to my stop on the Aurora Sky Blog Tour! You know, I've known Nikki for a while now, and I realized that I have never interviewed her in the whole time I have known her! So, today on my stop, I have an interview plus an awesome giveaway!
(Aurora Sky: Vampire Hunter #1)
Genres: New Adult | Paranormal | Urban Fantasy
Synopsis:
Her blood is toxic to vampires.
If there is one thing eighteen-year-old Aurora Sky wants, it's to get off the iceberg she calls home. Being kissed before she graduates wouldn't hurt either.
Then a near-fatal car wreck changes everything. Government agents step in and save Aurora's life in exchange for her services as a vampire hunter in Alaska. Basically she's a glorified chew toy. All thanks to her rare blood type, which sends a vampire into temporary paralysis right before she has to finish the job...by hand.
Now Aurora's only friends are groupies of the undead and the only boy she can think about may very well be a vampire.
(Mature YA/New Adult series. Contains mild language, violence, sexual situations . . . and blood sucking.)
(Aurora Sky: Vampire Hunter #2)
Genres: New Adult | Paranormal | Urban Fantasy
Synopsis:
Love bites.
Probation sucks.
Thanks to Dante’s recklessness, Aurora is now partners with Valerie: the redheaded, backstabbing vixen.
Dante is in full flirt mode. Fane’s tactics are more ruthless. Something carnal has awakened in Aurora and neither boy is helping tame her cravings.
When a member of the unit’s team is found dead, Aurora and Valerie are sent after a vampire in Sitka, but Aurora suspects the killer’s much closer to home.
Tell us 3 things someone would be surprised to know about you.
1. I ride a motorcycle – Suzuki DRZ400SM
2. Married a Frenchman while working as a teaching assistant in Amiens, France at age 22. (March 2000)
3. I don’t like children. I have a huge soft spot for teenagers, but any kid under ten makes me feel like I’m dealing with a wild and dangerous animal on the loose.
Where is your favorite spot to write?
At home in a T-shirt and PJ pants with my dog curled up beside me and the kitchen only five feet away to satiate frequent snack attacks.
Would you say you have an interesting writing quirk?
I write scenes out of order, starting with the ones I’m most excited about then go back and write in the stuff that comes before. I like immediate gratification.
What was the hardest part about writing this series? What was your favorite part?
The first book was the hardest. I rewrote it like five times and nearly gave up on it altogether. My favorite part is writing about a team of characters who each bring their unique personality and perspective to the pages. I’m crazy about Team Hunter. With the Spellbound series it felt like Gray against the world. With Aurora Sky I have a whole crew taking on the world.
Why do you feel you had to tell Aurora’s story?
The deeper I get into the series the more I feel it reflects the darker side of human nature. I think about all the teens who grew up in rough households or with broken families or being bullied at school. I like showing characters who, despite being beaten down over and over, rise back up even stronger.
What does your protagonist think of you? Would they want to hang out with you, the author, their creator?
I think my protagonist would think of me as someone who understands and is rooting for her every step of the way. If Aurora could have her way I’m sure she’d want me to replace Agent Melcher. Sorry, chick, I’ve got a job to do, just like you, and it’s telling the story.
What can you tell us about upcoming books (be it from the Aurora Sky series or something new)?
Right now I’m focused solely on Aurora Sky. Stakeout (Vol. 2.5) told from Noel’s POV is due out soon and I’m hard at work on Bad Blood (Vol. 3), and in the brainstorming stages of Hunting Season (Vol. 4).
And just for fun...
Please share with us your favorite book and fictional crush to date ;)
Can I share three? Gilbert Blythe from Anne of Green Gables; Mr. Darcy from Pride and Prejudice; and Peeta from The Hunger Games.
If you had a superpower what would it be and why?
Teleportation. Then I could enjoy two of the things I love most: Spending time with family & friends and foreign travel.
Finish the sentence: “I can’t live without...”
Sebastien! I thought true love and soul mates only existed in fiction.
My husband is my real life hero. I consider myself wildly independent and proud, but I’d sooner live without the sun than without Seb.
Awws! That is the sweetest thing I have ever heard! I hope to find love like that one day :)
Thank you so much Nikki for stopping by and answering some of my questions!
About the author: Nikki Jefford is a third generation Alaskan who found paradise in the not-so-tropical San Juan Islands (Wash.) where she is once more neighbors with Canada in a town without a single traffic light. She loves fictional bad boys and heroines who kick butt.
When she's not reading, writing, working, or out on a nature walk, she's out riding her Suzuki DRZ400SM.
