Synopsis:
Daisy Goodnight can speak to the dead. It’s not the result of a head injury or some near-death experience. She was just born that way. And she’s really good at it. Good enough to help the police solve the occasional homicide.
But helping the local authorities clear cold cases is one thing. Being whisked out of chemistry class by the FBI and flown to the scene of a murder/kidnapping in Minnesota? That’s the real deal.
Before the promotion can go to Daisy’s head, she’s up to her neck in trouble. The spirits are talking, and they’re terrified. There’s a real living girl in danger. And when Daisy is kidnapped by a crime boss with no scruples about using magic—and Daisy—to get what he wants, it looks like hers is the next soul on the line.
Cousin Daisy is back, and this time in her own book! We saw a bit of her and her awesome ghost-related powers in Texas Gothic, and we a lot more of that in this one!
Daisy works as an FBI consultant—her psychic/ghost-seeing abilities really come in handy when solving murders. However, this most recent case is different. This time, the FBI enlist Daisy's help in a kidnapping, which is totally not her thing as she deals with the dead. But she goes along with it, trying to help in any way she can... and then things get complicated. She herself gets kidnapped and there’s running away from bad guys, all while trying to solve the murder of the missing girl before she gets killed. It was super action-packed and I loved it!
I also loved Daisy! I knew I would like her as soon as I met her in Texas Gothic! She was just a very fun character with amazing abilities! I am a sucker for a good “I see dead people” power. I just love it! And I love the way hers works and was explained in this book.
One thing I did not expect from this book, but was pleasantly surprised, was all the Egyptology-type of things going on! Now, you all know about my love for all things mythology, but this wasn’t mythology, per se, but I still loved it! It was very interesting to see how all of this was intertwined with the kidnapping/murder that Daisy was trying to solve.
Spirit and Dust was a thrilling, action-packed ride with a fun character who has some amazing supernatural abilities! I loved the ghosts we encountered throughout the story, the magic, the Amy/Phin cameo, and all the insane plot twists I did not see coming! I seriously recommend the Goodnight Family series!
