Synopsis:

Corky Corcoran is sure it's just her imagination when she sees her dead sister rise from the grave. Or is it?

Corky is trying to put the nightmare of Bobbi's death behind her—she's back on the Shadyside cheerleading squad and has become friends with Kimmy and Debra. But everything is not back to normal for Corky—she hears horrible screams in the gym, her friend has become obsessed with the occult, and a strange young man is following her. And then the murders begin again...

Has the evil spirit from the Fear Street cemetery returned to destroy them one by one?

My rating: ★★★★☆

Cheers... from the grave!

Corky is still totally heartbroken over Bobbi’s death, understandably. Corky is really having a hard time putting her life back together—she obsessively goes to Bobbi’s grave, she’s off the cheer team, and to top it all off, some creepy weirdo seems to be stalking her. Oh, and the evil spirit that killed her sister might be back. I think I forgot to mention that. Lol.

I felt so awful for Corky—the pain she was going through from the loss of her sister. They were really, very close, and I just cannot imagine what it’s like losing a sibling like that.

single man tear

After all the tension between the girls on the team in the last book, Corky and the cheerleaders have become much closer in this book. Kimmy and the other girls actually asked Corky to come back to the team, but Corky reminded them how much they disliked her and her sister, and I was like, "YES! You guys forget about that already? Huh?" Lol. Anyway, the relationship between the girls in this book was much better, with less animosity. I even liked Chip better in this book, too!

One thing I love about this series is the whole mythos behind Fear Street and the Fear family! In this book, the cheerleaders visit the old burned down Fear mansion and practically have a seance in there! We also meet a new character, Sarah Beth Plummer, who helps shed some light on what happened all those years ago with Sarah Fear and the evil spirit that inhabited her. And even better, we get to meet an actual Fear in this book! A descendant of Sarah Fear herself! That was pretty cool.

We also got some Easter Eggs from other Fear Street books, and you know I love that! Cari and Eric from Party Summer were mentioned. Apparently, Debra, one of the cheerleaders is going out with Eric now... which is fine with me because I didn't like him with Cari, anyway. Lol. Also, another mention of the infamous Suki Thomas! She and Gary actually, both originally from The Overnight. And they’re still together! Like, really together. Lol.

“You should have seen Suki Thomas with Gary Brandt. Well, Suki was giving Gary a sex ed. class. They didn't even bother to go back to the stacks.”

*gasp* "Oh my god!" His face, LOL!

Lastly, Mayra Barnes, from The Sleepwalker, was also mentioned.

The Second Evil was another fun and suspenseful addition to the wonderful Fear Street series. The evil spirit was back and we got to learn a bit more about it! I actually had no idea who it was possessing throughout most of the book, so it was fun guessing and then being surprised in the end. Overall, I really enjoyed this read!

The Fear Street connection: Corky still lives on Fear Street. And Bobbi is buried in the Fear Cemetery.
