Synopsis: Ariane Tucker has finally escaped GTX, the research facility that created her. While on the run, Zane Bradshaw is the only person she can trust. He knows who-and what-she is and still wants to be part of her life.

But accepting Zane's help means putting him in danger.

Dr. Jacobs, head of GTX, is not the only one hunting for Ariane. Two rival corporations have their sights set on taking down their competition. Permanently. To protect Zane and herself, Ariane needs allies. She needs the other hybrids. The hybrids who are way more alien and a lot less human. Can Ariane win them over before they turn on her? Or will she be forced to choose sides, to decide who lives and who dies?

My rating: ★★★★★

This book picks up right where The Rules left off, with Ariane and Zane on the run from the lab and the scientist who created Ari. She may be free of the lab for now, but they’re still looking for her. Her only chance is to recruit the other hybrids from the other competitors. Unfortunately, these hybrids are a lot less human than Ari is. They are... unsettling, to say the least.

Learning about and meeting these hybrids was an interesting experience. You just didn’t know where they stood—whether they were loyal to the scientist that created them or if they actually wanted to help Ari and secure their own freedom. Like I said, they were kinda creepy because they didn’t act as human as Ari does, but the youngest of the hybrids that she met was my favorite! He just seemed like such a cute kid who just wanted to go to school and learn.

One of my favorite things about this book was another thing I loved about The Rules: the romance.

Their banter and flirting were SO cute! And I just loved how Zane asked for consent every step of their relationship... he was so sweet and thoughtful! And speaking of Zane, we get a little more insight into his home life and his parents, which I found intriguing because his parents are just so intertwined with the situation at hand with Ari and all that. It was wild!

This book in general was wild! Everything that could go wrong did, everything was a mess, nothing but chaos on fire...

Especially that ending omg. I actually saw one thing coming, but it was still so insane to witness! But this book was action-packed from start to finish and I loved that about it! I love good action in a book! Plus, I really love the sci-fi element of this. I loved the characters and watching their relationships develop with one another. Still, I have to admit, this book was filled with dumb decisions and even dumber arguments... which is probably why everything went so spectacularly bad. Lol. Did I love it anyway? I absolutely did! 😆

Have you read this book? If so, what did you think about it? If not, what do you think? Does it sound like something you might want to read? Leave me a link to your review or comment below! 😊

  1. I love when a second book in a series is just as good as the first, because often they kind of drop off. Great review!

    1. That is very true! But this one was pretty consistent.
