Synopsis:
Some Secrets Are Better Left Buried...
When the mysterious Gavin Phillips returns to Seattle after a prolonged and unexplained absence, he threatens to expose fifteen-year-old Cassidy Jones’s incredible secret: she is a superhero. But his presence is far more sinister than she realizes, for it soon becomes apparent that his hidden agenda holds a dark and dangerous intent that will unleash an unparalleled evil upon an unsuspecting world. Can Cassidy stop him before all is lost?
While on a school trip to an Egyptian exhibit at a museum, Cassidy overhears a plan to rob the place. Even worse, she sees someone she knows, someone close. Cassidy and Emery make a plan to put stop to this, seeing as how they may have found a chip from his mother’s experiment. You know, the one that gave Cassidy her superpowers. Yeah.
Also, Emery’s “accountant” father is back in town. Cassidy has always been iffy about him. There’s more to this man than either Cassidy or Emery could ever imagine. And it’s not necessarily a good thing, what with his underlying dangerous streak that could pose a problem for them on their current mission.
Oh my gods, so many freaking plot twists, it was amazing! I just cannot believe all that happened! Gavin is certainly an interesting character--didn’t see anything coming until it was right on top of me! I always love it when a book takes me by surprise like that.
You know how in previous books, while superheroing, Cassidy has dressed up in some quite unorthodox costumes? You know, the ninja in the first book and then Bigfoot (no, I’m being serious) in the second? Well, in this one, Emery and Cassidy kick it up a notch and have her dress up as a mummy! To blend into her surroundings, obviously. It was incredibly hilarious! Everyone’s reactions to the “mummy...” *laughs*
I just love these fun costumes she wears in order to go kick some butt! I also love that they are different from book to book.
I know I already mentioned this in previous books, but I thought it would be worth mentioning again how much I ship Emery and Cassidy! Look, I know their relationship is platonic, and Cassidy is into Jared (who’s a nice guy, I’ll admit), but Emery! He’s very good at compartmentalizing so we rarely get to see what he’s really feeling. It’s infuriating! But his actions... he is just so sweet! I really do believe his feelings for Cassidy run deeper than he let's on (or maybe that's just wishful thinking on my part?) But, you know, Cassidy is so fixated on Jared. And I get that, I suppose. But, Emery, man!!
Pulling my face closer, Emery exhaled a warm, fragrant breath that swept up my nostrils, making me feel a little rummy. Smell affects me in crazy ways, and Emery smelled the way he looked: good.
“Every girl I know would be envious right now,” I told him.
“Look left,” he instructed.
“Of course, being looked at like I’m under a microscope sort of kills the romance.”
“What I observe under a microscope usually isn’t so chatty. Now look right. And if I were being romantic, this isn’t the way I would go about it.”
Also, we finally got to me the infamous Riley and her bounty hunters! And it was not what I was expecting (Cassidy was equally as surprised), but in a good way! I LOVED them! I can’t believe Emery has been keeping this bunch all to himself this whole time! Shame on you Emery! They were so fun and quirky! Really hoping we’ll get to see more of them in future books!
I think it goes without saying how much I am loving this series! It has an amazing cast of characters, insane plot twists, awesome superpowers, and equally awesome costumes! Overall, it was a great book! Highly recommend this series!

Thank you for the lovely review, Liliana. Glad you enjoyed the story and the introduction of Riley O'Shea and crew. I had a lot of fun creating them. :)
