The Seepwalker
Mayra starts working for an old woman who lives on Fear Street. It’s an easy job and she gets paid well, but ever since she started working for there she’s been sleepwalking... to Fear Street no less! Is this woman casting a spell on Mayra?
This book had a pretty good mystery: who and what was the cause of Mayra’s sleepwalking. There were actually a couple plot twists I did not see coming! This book was full of surprises!
Overall, I really liked this book. Sleep/dream-related books have always interested me, so I liked that about this. The mystery itself was good too—it totally surprised me! I was not expecting that reveal at all! I felt awful for Mayra and the sleepwalking, especially when no one would take it seriously at the beginning. Including her own mother, who is a nurse! Unbelievable. And her visit with the psych doctor had some really nice foreshadowing I really appreciated. But yeah, I really liked this book!
The Secret Bedroom
This book... it was... it was a book. One I didn’t enjoy too much, tbh. I liked the mystery behind the secret door and what was behind it, but we don’t really get to the door until the second half of the book. The first half of the book was full of romance I did not care about. And embarrassment, so much embarrassment...
Lea’s actions sometime’s were just... why?! Why would you do that? I just didn’t understand and I felt so embarrassed for her. Lol. But it was all because of a GUY who already has a GIRLFRIEND! This drove me insane!
One thing I really liked about this book was that one of Lea’s good friends (her only friend, if I'm being honest lol) is Deena Martinson from The Wrong Number! She is more than just a mention or an Easter Egg, she’s actually a side character and I really enjoyed that!
Overall, this book was... fine. I liked the mystery and the fact that there was a supernatural element to this book—that was awesome! I loved Deena being in this book too! But I wasn’t the biggest fan of our main character Lea and the dumb plot that was going on with Don and Marci.
Bad Dreams
Maggie keeps having these horrible recurring nightmares, and, well, I have to say, I didn’t find Maggie’s nightmares to be all that scary. Of course, I’m pretty hard to scare when it comes to descriptions in books, but I usually love R.L. Stines horrific descriptions! I guess these just didn’t do it for me.
The mystery was interesting enough, though. I mean, Maggie’s nightmares are becoming reality?! Yes please! However, I can’t say I was the biggest fan of the reveal. It was crazy alright, but it just was not what I was expecting.
But overall, I actually did enjoy this book. I really liked the idea of it! It’s not one of my favorites, but it wasn’t completely terrible either. I loved all the little cameos of characters from other books, and this is a Fear Street book, so I loved the overall suspenseful atmosphere. And Maggie wasn’t an unlikable character.
