Synopsis: Mary has been through a lot recently. She defeated a Shadowman, saved Vicky from a coma, and got a date to homecoming. She's ready for life to settle down and be a bit boring so she can catch her breath and process everything that she's been through. But she isn't going to get any downtime.

She may have defeated the Shadowman, but it isn't done with Mary, and it has her number. Literally. Now a scary monster is calling her house and Mary can't block its number. What does it want? How can she get rid of it? And what will she do when it decides to come visit?

My rating: ★★★★☆

I am enjoying this series quite a bit, I really am, but the romance is still driving me nuts so let's get that out of the way, huh? 😅

Kayle and Mary... I still do not ship it! So we started off the series with Mary’s love interest being Cy, the new boy in school who was really funny and sweet. Cy has an older brother Kyle, who was an absolute dick to Mary in the first book. But things happened, he changed, and now they’re together and I. Don't. Like. It. And it even sounds like Mary herself isn’t super into it. Girl, seriously 🙄

Oh and Cy is still together with Vicky, a horrible cheerleader person whom he did NOT like in book one for valid reasons. But look at them now! And it sucks because it seems like Mary may still have a thing for Cy?

"[Kyle’s] more serious. I don't think I could talk silly with him. It wouldn't be as easy to joke around. I'm more relaxed with Cy, at least I was."
Rachel sighed. "This doesn't look good."

Yes! Exactly! She’s just settling, to be honest. Sigh. I had such high hopes. But you know what, if she’s not into Kyle as much as she thought she was, she shouldn't be leading him on. At points in the book it almost sounds like she's trying to convince herself that she likes Kyle, and not only because he’s Cy’s brother. I just don’t like it. And it’s not only because I don’t ship it, but also don’t play with the guy. Come on. But even I have to admit that she and Kyle had their cute moments and that Kyle can be pretty sweet now... But still! It just doesn't feel right!

Enough about Kyle and Mary though because UGH. In this book, Mary is dealing with weird phone calls, weird packages, and she’s even losing time. It’s all very weird. Anyway, she finds herself in some real trouble in this one and the situation is actually quite scary.

Overall, I really enjoyed this book, despite my issues with Mary and Kyle. But I liked everything else! I love the characters and Mary’s relationship with Rachel and what a great, supportive friend she is. I really am enjoying this series 🖤

She was Scary Mary. She kicked ghosts’ and Shadowmen’s butts.
