Synopsis: Follow the Rites...
Nothing less than the survival of humanity is at stake.
From Marcus Kliewer, a new “titan of the macabre and unsettling” (Erin A. Craig, #1 New York Times bestselling author), comes a supernatural horror about a young woman who accepts a caretaking job from Craigslist, only to discover the position has consequences far greater—and more dangerous—than she ever could have imagined.
EXCITING OPPORTUNITY:
Caretaker urgently needed. Three days of work. Competitive pay. Serious applicants ONLY.
Macy Mullins can’t say why the job posting grabbed her attention—it had the pull of a fisherman’s lure, barbed hook and all—vaguely ominous. But after an endless string of failed job interviews, she's not exactly in the position to be picky. She has rent to pay, groceries to buy, and a younger sister to provide for.
Besides, it’s only three days’ work…
Three days, cooped up in a stranger’s house, surrounded by Oregon Coast wilderness.
What starts as a peculiar side gig soon becomes a waking nightmare. An incomprehensible evil may dwell on this property—and Macy Mullins might just be the only thing standing between it, and the rest of humanity.

This book had me hooked right from the beginning because that opening was SUPER creepy. I loved it!

I really loved the idea of this book, and I feel like it was very well executed. I have read both of this author’s books at this point, and I can honestly say, he does horror really well! The last book gave me Backrooms vibes, and this one reminded me of something straight out of a Creepypasta, which is media I love!
One thing that was funny in a non-funny way was how Macy was so bad at following the rules. Like SO BAD! But here is the thing: I really don't blame her for all the decisions she made. They were realistic! Like, who was she to know that these rites weren't the ravings of a madman? And she actually tried. She really did, but shit got crazy REAL fast. However, I did love that her 17-year-old sister was the only reasonable one in this book 😂

This was weird and insane in the best way possible! The build-up was slow after the prologue, but goddamn if the end wasn’t suspenseful. Also, why is it always basements? 😠And that classic horror ending? I freaking LOVED IT!! It was SO good! It was genuinely creepy and eerie, and I cannot wait to see what else this author comes up with!

She huffed back to the couch, plopped down. "Macy, I'm going to put this as politely as I can: if you take this job, you're a stupid fucking idiot.”
