Okay, I'm finally here with the Mid-Year Freakout Tag 😅 I know I'm late, but it is what it is 😆 Anyway, a couple years ago I smooshed together the questions from the original tag created by Ely and Chami with the revamped version from Jesse the Reader, and I decided to use that same combo this year. It works for me, so I'm gonna keep them like this for now. Lol.
1. Best book you've read so far in 2025.
This book was SO good! I enjoyed it even more than I thought I would!
2. Best sequel you've read so far in 2025.
I loved this book so much 😭 I'm such a sucker for crossovers 😆
3. New release you haven't read yet but want to.
So many. The Ragpicker King and She Waits for You Beyond the Dark both came out in March, and Of Monsters and Mainframes came out in June.
4. Most anticipated release for the second half of 2025.
I'm cheating a little bit with A Touch of Treachery (August 26th) because I got an ARC of the book not too long ago 😂 But I'm still looking forward to it! Lol. And it's been SO long since the last Ellie Jordan book, so I'm really looking forward to Robber's Road (October 13th). And yep, another Jennifer Estep book that comes out October 14th 😆
5. Biggest disappointment.
I didn't hate this book. I swear. Lol. However, I loved the first book so much that I gave it 5 stars. This one I ended up giving 3.5. So not great. But also not horrible. Just disappointing.
6. Biggest surprise.
I feel like the biggest surprise was also the last book I mentioned, because I was just surprised at how much less I liked it than the first book. But if we're talking about surprises in-book, the plot twist at the end of the first part of If Something Happens to Me was GOOD!
7. New favorite author.
I feel like it's safe to say that this manga artist/author is a favorite. I've read SO much of this series this year, and I've really been enjoying it!
8. Newest fictional crush.
I quite enjoyed Rian's character 😏
9. Newest favorite character.
And I loved Ada as well! She was very sassy. Lol.
10. Book that made you cry.
I don't think a book has made me cry this year, but I'm sure this one came close a couple times 😩
11. Book that made you happy.
This crossover made me incredibly happy 😌
12. Favorite book-to-movie/TV show adaptation you've seen this year.
I have not watched a whole lot of adaptations (unless you count anime lol), so by default, I guess I have to go with this one? And I didn't even love it. 1.) It's not the best Fear Street movie, 2.) The book was (obviously lol) better, 3.) And as a standalone slasher, it was just fine 🤷♀️ Some of the kills were cool, but the Fear Street movie trilogy had better kills.
13. Favorite post you've done this year.
I love stats, so those tend to be my favorite posts to do. This year, this post was new! I looked at whether I read the books I bought last year or not, and it was just really interesting to see.
14. Most beautiful book you've bought so far this year (or one you'd like to own).
I really like the pretty flowers on the cover, but that hardback is 😍
15. What books do you need to read by the end of this year?
SO MANY! These are just a couple. But we will see. Lol.
16. What's the best book recommendation you've received this year?
Idk if this counts... I mean, I saw the author promoting this series on Threads, and the way she promoted it, I was like, "I need to read that immediately!" Lol. And I'm glad I did because it was fun! I just need to read the rest of the series 😅
17. What was your first DNF of the year?
No DNFs so far this year!
18. A new release from this year that you've read and your thoughts on it (good or bad).
Sci-fi horror is one of my favorite genres, and the books by S.A. Barnes have been pretty solid so far. I really liked the story in this one, and it was genuinely creepy in parts.
19. Do you feel your reading tastes have changed/shifted at all this year? (A new genre you love, a new favorite trope, or a new favorite theme?)
They have shifted in that I'm reading MORE manga. Lol. They're just really fast and easy reads, especially when one is in a reading slump 😩
20. A book you've read so far this year that you feel embodies the vibe of your reading year.
Not so much because of what's inside the book, but the title: Dreadful. That's it. Full stop 😂
I am not tagging anyone in particular, but feel free to do it yourself if you'd like! I'd love to see your answers! 😁
