2025 Mid-Year Check In: Reading Stats

So, um, this post was meant to go up last week, and it didn't because I just didn't feel like blogging 😅 Which is shocking because stats is one of my favorite things to look at! So let's look at them now!

Last year, I read TRIPLE the amount of novels I have read this year 😬 That's how bad my reading has been lately 😭 However, I have read significantly more manga, which is honestly the only thing that has been saving me.

I love my re-reads, but this year I actually haven't done a lot of that! The only book I've re-read this year is The Prom Queen, in preparation for the movie. After reading that, I'm kinda in the mood for more Fear Street, so I may re-read some of the more summer-y ones. I may even start one after I finish writing this post 👀

See, even the numbers say I've had a worse reading year 😭 And I've really been feeling it in my soul.

And here is a more detailed look at that, broken down by number of pages.

This year, I've kept it to shorter books, under 500 pages, because that's what my brain is able to handle at the moment. Last year, by this time, I had already read 9 books with >500 pages.

This chart actually didn't change much since last year.

This one's changed a bit. While physical books remain my most read, this year I have read a lot more digital books as well. There were some manga that I borrowed from the library that were ebooks, so that definitely helped those numbers. Lol.

This one is pretty much the same as last year. Lots of library books. Lol. But this year I have read fewer of those books that I own. I need to work on that 😬 Lol.

This one is also pretty similar. I'm a lot better at reading books I get recently as opposed to books I've had for a while 😅

These percentages are pretty identical to the ones from last year. Lol. It's just fewer books in each category because, again, I've read fewer overall books this year.

I've been pretty good at not starting so many series this year, but I've also been good at NOT finishing them 😭 But I have caught up on a couple, and that's a new category I'm keeping track of.

This chart makes me sad. Not that 4-star reads are bad, but last year I had read SIXTEEN 5-star books! 16! 😭 Another way my reading has been terrible this year 😢 (Again, 4 stars aren't bad, but I'm always seeking the high of that 5-star read, and that's only happened twice this year 😭)

Last year, weirdly, I had read more books published in the 2010s. However, I have literally read the exact same number of books published in the 2020s as last year 😂

This year I haven't read as many indie books as usual, but maybe that will change by the end of the year!

This one is significantly different. Last year, I had read a whole lot more books by female authors, but this year, because of all the manga by male artists, I haven't read as many. Lol.

Ooooh this chart is looking a lot better than it was last year! And it is definitely because of all the manga by Japanese artists/authors!

This one is pretty much the same every year. I like what I like 🤷‍♀️😂

Oh, this one is interesting. This year, I read significantly more books with a male POV than female POV (percentage-wise, anyway lol).

This one is pretty similar to last year, too. Except I read slightly more multiple POV books this time (again, percentage-wise lol).

Same for this one. It's pretty similar with a slightly higher percentage of 3rd person POV.

This is typically my norm. But it's different from last year because this year I have not read any MG books. Lol.

And this is also my norm. Lol.

And I saved the best for last! This is always my favorite chart to look at. My usual most-read genres are horror, mystery thrillers, and urban fantasy. But this year it's been action. And if you guessed that those are the manga, you would be correct! Lol.

Let me know how your reading is going so far this year!

  1. oohh pretty charts 😍😍

You're definitely doing good on catching up with book series. It's kind of hard keeping track of finished ones because something authors will add more books to series they "ended" years ago, or because something that's supposed to be a duology becomes a trilogy etc. Of course, there's also the fact that new series keep getting published and you literally cannot "finish" them for at least 3 years because the books haven't been written yet 😂😂 So yeah, you're doing great!

    1. It really is hard! A lot of the manga I'm reading I know don't have an end date at the moment, but you're right about other series getting books added on. As a fan of series, I love this. As a fan of finishing series though, not so much 😂

  2. You absolutely killed with these charts,, HOW did you achieve this. I have recently been thinking about bullet journaling for my reading goals/progress. But it is just so much work. I never thought about doing it online (hmmm... so many possibilities). Did you use a specific app for it?

Also, saw that you're current most read genre was action. I can almost feel the reading slump coming on... I need some good action recs!!

    1. Thank you! I use Canva. I've been doing this post for years, so I have had these charts for years lol. I just go in every summer and update the stats and download them lol.

  3. So many stats! And you're doing good about getting books other than review books read, so that is something I need/want to get better about. Good luck with the rest of the year!

    1. Thanks! Oh it took me years to get to this point 😅 Netgalley is a dangerous place lol. But I've gotten really good about only visiting Netgalley like once a month. Otherwise 😬😂
