Synopsis: For a thousand years, ash fell and no flowers bloomed. For a thousand years, the Skaa slaved in misery and lived in fear. For a thousand years, the Lord Ruler reigned with absolute power and ultimate terror, divinely invincible. Then, when all hope was lost, the scarred, heartbroken half-Skaa Kelsier found in himself the powers of a Mistborn.

A brilliant thief and natural leader, Kelsier recruits the underworld's smartest and most trustworthy allomancers, who each share one of his many powers and relish a high-stakes challenge. Only then does he reveal his ultimate dream: not just the greatest heist in history, but the downfall of the divine despot.

But even with the best criminal crew ever assembled, Kel's plan looks like the ultimate long shot, until luck brings a ragged girl named Vin into his life. Like him, she's a half-Skaa orphan, but she's lived a much harsher life. Vin has learned to expect betrayal from everyone she meets. She will have to learn to trust, if Kel is to help her master powers that she’s never dreamed of.

My rating: ★★★★★

I loved this book so much! I finally understand the hype surrounding this author!

This world and magic system were so cool! I really enjoyed learning about allomancy and what each metal did. A lot of it was based in physics, which I appreciated. It all made sense for this story and world. I also liked the idea of there being Mistings who can only use one metal, and then the Mistborn who can use ALL the metals.

There are also other types of magic in the world, like feruchemy and whatever it is that the inquisitors do. Lol. But it's all metal-based! I loved this concept because I haven't read anything quite like it.

But let me tell you, the thing that solidly made me want to read this book was the promise of a heist.

“We have a chance here, gentlemen. A chance to do something great--something no other thieving crew has ever done. We'll rob from the Lord Ruler himself!”

I was still on a high after reading and loving the Six of Crows duology when I added this book to my tbr, and it was even more amazing than I was anticipating! I mean, they were going to try to steal from (and perhaps overthrow) the Lord Ruler, who is wildly overpowered. Kelsier had this whole insane, intricate plan to achieve this, and the events that transpired were INSANE! I loved it! You guys know I'm an action girly through and through, and this book gave me exactly what I wanted! I loved the action sequences! They were tense and exciting, and I enjoyed every moment of it!

Another thing I loved about this book: the characters. I loved Kelsier and Vin, who are Mistborn, Sazed, who's a keeper, Lord Elend, a nobleman, and just Kelsier's entire crew, who were made up of thieves who had different abilities and skills. I particularly loved the banter between them all. The camaraderie between Kelsier and his crew and how they respected one another 🥹 The fun banter between Elend and Vin when she was undercover as a noble woman 😭 But I think the relationship I enjoyed the most was between Kelsier and Vin. Vin had a rough childhood on the streets. She trusted no one and the poor kid was abused even by her own brother. So when Kelsier brought her to the crew, her mistrust remained, understandably. But slowly, she opened up, allowed herself to trust, and Kelsier even began to mentor her in allomancy. Their relationship became almost father-daughter-like, and I loved that! I loved that for Vin. And I just really enjoyed her character arc. She's an amazing character. I love her!

This was just so good! I loved everything about it! The action, the characters, the magic system, and even the political intrigue. And that ending? WILD. I'm still not okay.

But I can't wait to see what other tortures Brandon Sanderson has in store 😆

You push me to seek revenge? he thought. Well, you shall have it!
