Bookish Discussion: To Read Or Not To Read (Books I Own)

I've been mood reading since the start of the year, and I love it! So much better than keeping a strict schedule! I think that was one of the reasons why I fell into my horrible reading slump not that long ago. However, every time I go to my reading list of book I own to check out what book I'm in the mood for, there are books there that I skip without a second glance. So then I thought to myself, "How many of these book that I own am I not sure I want to read anymore, for one reason or another?" It's a sad thought, but it happened, and here is what I came up with:

In order to have a snowball’s chance at success, she’ll have to team up with her most loyal friends, including a certain vampire in black with a provoking talent for distraction.

Old cravings aren’t easily quenched, nor past passions.

With knowledge comes danger and Aurora is at risk on all sides.

My rating: ★★★★☆

With Dante gone, it is up to Aurora and her friends to hatch a plan and get him back. Along the way, they also set out to discover what really is going on in the Agency with Jared and Melcher, though they have a pretty good idea. Seriously, those crazy people -_- But this book was great, like always! :)

Battling a possessed video camera, a crazy zombie dog, a monstrous bully, and a frighteningly broken down family life, Jason embarks on a mission to find his lost brother so the two can write an ending for his story.

As an any horror fan knows, saving the day won't be easy, as Jason finds himself forced to face the real world where death isn't just a splash of fake blood on a camera lens.

My rating: ★★★☆☆

This one sounded like a lot of fun when I first heard about it, especially since I love horror, but it actually wasn't exactly what I was expecting. I do, however, commend it in its uniqueness. I've never read anything like this, so I really liked that!

Bookish Discussion: Most Read Authors

I don't know if you've been keeping track or not, but I've been posting discussions every other week, with bookish nail art posts going up in between. This week was nail art week, but since I actually didn't make any designs for this week, I thought I'd do another discussion post instead :) Last week I talked about the Top Authors I Own the Most Books From, so going along with that theme, I decided to check who my most read authors were! And thanks to Goodreads handy-dandy little tool, that was made very easy for me to find out! :)

When they were little, Lexi and her identical twin, Ava, made up a third sister, Alicia. If something broke? Alicia did it. Cookies got eaten? Alicia's guilty. Alicia was always to blame for everything. The game is all grown up now that the girls are seniors. They use Alicia as their cover to go out with boys who are hot but not exactly dating material. Boys they'd never, ever be with in real life.

Now one of the guys Alicia went out with has turned up dead, and Lexi wants to stop the game for good. As coincidences start piling up, Ava insists that if they follow the rules for being Alicia, everything will be fine. But when another boy is killed, the DNA evidence and surveillance photos point to only one suspect: Alicia. The girl who doesn't exist. As she runs from the cops, Lexi has to find the truth before another boy is murdered. Because either Ava is a killer…or Alicia is real.

My rating: ★★★★★

Synopsis:

Finding love is hard, even when you aren't a mutant.

Like most seventeen-year-olds, Piper Dunn wants to blend in with the crowd. Having a blowhole is a definite handicap. A product of a lab-engineered mother with dolphin DNA, Piper spends her school days hiding her brilliant ocean-colored eyes and sea siren voice behind baggy clothing and ugly glasses. When Tyler, the new boy in school, zeroes in on her, ignoring every other girl vying for his attention, no one, including Piper, understands why...

Then Piper is captured on one of her secret missions rescuing endangered sea creatures and ends up in the same test center where her mother was engineered. There she discovers she isn't the only one of her kind. Joel is someone she doesn't have to hide from, and she finds herself drawn to the dolph-boy who shares her secrets. Talking to him is almost as easy as escaping from the lab. Deciding which boy has captured her heart is another story...

My rating: ★★★☆☆

When I first heard about this book I thought it sounded really awesome! I mean, a mutant girl with dolphin DNA, how cool is that? It's not something you read about too often. The only other book I read that sounded similar this was The Neptune Project, and I absolutely loved that one! So I was really excited to try this one! And overall, it was a pretty good read.

Synopsis:

Be careful what you let in...

Siler House has stood silent beneath Savannah’s moss-draped oaks for decades. Notoriously haunted, it has remained empty until college-bound Jess Perry and three of her peers gather to take part in a month-long study on the paranormal. Jess, who talks to ghosts, quickly bonds with her fellow test subjects. One is a girl possessed. Another just wants to forget. The third is a guy who really knows how to turn up the August heat, not to mention Jess’s heart rate... when he’s not resurrecting the dead.

The study soon turns into something far more sinister when they discover that Siler House and the dark forces within are determined to keep them forever. In order to escape, Jess and the others will have to open themselves up to the true horror of Siler House and channel the very evil that has welcomed them all.

My rating: ★★☆☆☆

"We all know we've been brought here as part of a study on the paranormal. Jess communicates wit the dead. Allison has demons on speed dial. My buddy Bryan here sends stuff to the Twilight Zone without return postage. And I've got a knack for making my own zombie zoo theme park. Fun times." -Gage

Jess is super excited to be participating in this study at Siler House. The house is beautiful and she might finally be getting answers to her weird power. Except her excitement soon turns to terror when she starts to realize that something horrible might be going on in the house... something sinister. Jess and her new friends try to figure out what in the world is really going on in the house, only to discover that there may be something more to the study than they could imagine. They need to get out of the house, and fast, before whatever evil thing that is lurking there gets to them.
