End of the Year TBR
I've been craving some high fantasy lately, which is a rare mood for me, but I'm going to embrace it while it lasts. Lol. I thought I'd put together a list of books I would like to read before the year is over. Now, this is a LONG list so I won't get through all of these, but there are 7 books on this list that I would like to read for sure. But I'm a mood reader and I needed other options just in case 😆
Adult high fantasy:
One of the books that inspired this list (and mood tbh) is Dreadful! I just bought this book when I went to Powell's last month and it just sounds like such a fun read!
These next two books I added last minute, BUT I have heard nothing but great things about M.L. Wang so I want to give her books a shot! Bonus: both of these books are standalone (to my knowledge)! That's rare for high fantasy books!
Mistborn is another I added on a whim, but I have been wanting to dive into Brandon Sanderson's books because he is another author I've heard nothing but good things about! I wasn't sure where to start with his books and I was debating between this one and Warbreaker, but I ended up going with this one because it has a heist! That's so exciting! (Also that reminded me a bit of Six of Crows 😆)
YA high fantasy:
Shadows of Truth is a book I have been waiting for since I read the first book, League of Liars, in the series last year! I loved the first book and I am so excited to see how the duology wraps up because that cliffhanger was insane!
Bonesmith is about ghosts and ghost-fighting warriors and it honestly just sounds so cool. Maybe it's a little spooky? Idk. Lol.
Heartless Hunter I'm actually in the middle of right now! I'll probably finish it today, if I'm not done with it already. Lol. But this one caught my eye because it's a romance between a witch and a witch hunter and it was honestly giving me Matthias and Nina vibes from Six of Crows 😆 (Yeah I know... I can't stop thinking of SoC 😆 I loved that duology, okay? ðŸ˜) Anyway, now that I'm well into the book, it's not very Matthias and Nina vibes tbh. It's okay so far... I like the story and I really like the world and magic system. But idk, I can't say I care too much about the characters 😅 But we'll see. I'll let you know more on Monday what my thoughts end up being on this one. (Also it's a romantic fantasy and I don't think those are for me? I'm undecided yet.)
I've been wanting to get back into reading more Nikki Jefford books because I have fallen behind, and she has this high fantasy series that sounds really good! I don't know if this is one I'll be able to get to this coming month, but it's a good one to have on the list.
YA urban fantasy:
I've been wanting to read some Shadowhunters lately too and these first two books are the only ones I have left 😠I almost don't want to read them because this is all I have, but I may end up reading one before the year is over. We'll see.
Wild is the Witch is another witchy one, obviously. Lol. In this one, a witch unleashes a curse to could have really bad consequences, so a boy who hates witches helps her retrieve the curse. Lol. It sounds so fun! And very similar to Heartless Hunter... though hopefully better? 👀😆
Adult romantic fantasy:
Phantasma is another book that is a long shot. Me and popular books just don't get along 😬 But this one caught my attention before I started seeing it everywhere and it sounds interesting, so we will see. But like I said, idk if romantic fantasies are for me soooo 😅
And I think Assistant to the Villain is also a romantic fantasy but this is one I am very excited to read because it sounds very fun! It's a book I've owned for a while now, and it's another book that inspired this TBR.
YA historical fantasy:
This one is the sequel to The Keeper of Night, a book I really enjoyed! It's about this half-reaper, half-shinigami just trying to find her place in the world and it was very heavy on the Japanese mythology, which I loved! Something really tragic happened at the end of the first book, so I'm really curious to see where the story goes from there.
YA fairy tale retelling:
And last is the sequel to Gilded, which is a fairy tale retelling of Rumpelstiltskin! I love Marissa Meyer's books and I have been meaning to read this one since it came out years ago 😅 Maybe I'll get to it this next month. But no promises. Lol.
Let me know what some of your favorite fantasy books are because I have entered my high fantasy era 😆 And let me know what you're hoping to read before the year is over!
I competely forgot about League of Liars 🤦 re-adding it to my mental TBR rn 😂
ReplyDeleteI literally cannot wait for you to read Assistant to the Villain, it's so bad it's good 😂 It's the perfect light read to just have fun with.
ahhh Brandon Sanderson, or as I call him, the guy with a million books everyone is raving about but starting them terrifies me because I will never catch up 😂 Although, now that I'm thinking about it, I have read one of his series - Steelheart - and it was so good. Okay wait no, there's also Skyward...I didn't even realize that series was his lol
I LOVED League of Liars! It was such a good fantasy! And now I'm even more excited about Assistant to the Villain! I love a good bad book! 😆
DeleteOmg I have been so intimidated by his book for this reason! I feel like I'll never catch up! But I hear so many good things about them that I think I just have to go for it and see what happens.
Nice list. I picked up Assistant to the Villain from my library. It's my next read.
ReplyDeleteOooh nice! I hope you like it! It seems like such a fun one!
