Sci-Fi Book Recommendations (Part 1)

I keep seeing that November is sci-fi month, I'm not sure how true that is, but we're just gonna go with it 😆 I thought I would make a list of some of my favorite sci-fi reads, but it turns out that I have many recommendations so I'm gonna be splitting this into two parts, maybe three.

I haven't done a sci-fi list before so I'm bringing out books I read over 10 years ago 😅 Forgive me if I don't have much to say about those older books because it has been a loooong time since I read them. Lol. So while I remember that I love them, I may not necessarily remember why. Lol. But I will link the books to my reviews. Though be warned, those older reviews... yikes 😅 They are excitable and... obnoxious, in my opinion. I did write them back when I wasn't as dead on the inside 😆 I'm JOKING (mostly... 👀🤣) Also, they are seriously lacking in gifs, and that may be the worst crime of all 🤣 You have been warned. Lol.

YA - Dystopian/Apocalyptic:

We are starting off with a genre I don't read a lot of anymore even though I used to love it. It definitely has to do with the fact that it feels like we're living in a dystopian world right now 🫠 But I digress.

I read these first four books 10 years ago or something ridiculous like that, but I remember loving them! In the world of Glitch, everyone has a chip implanted that suppresses emotions because emotions are messy and nonproductive apparently 🙄 Well, the main character's chip starts glitching (hence the title lol) and she starts feeling all these emotions she's never felt before. There was romance and overthrowing of oppressive governments, and it was just a really good trilogy!

Dualed had a really cool concept. In this futuristic world, everyone is born with a twin of sorts, an Alternate, and they eventually have to fight this Alt and only one will come out alive in the end. This one had a lot of really good action! This is a duology and while I really enjoyed this first book, I loved the sequel even more! It was a solid dystopian duology!

Matched and Delirium are similar in that they have to do with love. In Matched, as the title suggests, the government finds you your perfect match. And in Delirium, much like in Glitch, love is outlawed and when you reach a certain age you are "Cured" of love. I don't remember much about these except for the fact that I liked them and that they had a love triangle. Lol. I also never finished reading these series and I honestly don't know if I ever will, even though I really liked them.

Oooh Doomed was SO good! This one was cool because it's more apocalyptic than dystopian, and the apocalypse was brought on by a computer virus... that was created by the main character's estranged father 🫢 This book had a lot of references to Greek mythology, which I loved! For one, the main character's name is Pandora and she opens a link sent to her by her father that causes this mess... it was SO good!

Before Megan Miranda found her niche in writing adult mystery thrillers, she used to write YA mysteries and I loved them! I do have some of her more recent books on my TBR, I just haven't gotten around to them yet 😅 But Soulprint was good! It had a really interesting concept! In this world, they are able to track a soul through their various lives. The main character is imprisoned for something she did in a previous life. I read this a million years ago so I don't remember much about it, but it was definitely a good one!

Yes, I too have read Shatter Me. Lol. I know it's still very popular these days, but it's a good one! And yes, I am using the old cover because that's the edition I read and I don't like the eyeballs 😂 I never actually read further than the first book, and at this point, I have no desire to continue on with the series. But it was good! I read this when I was super into dystopians, so I devoured it. Lol.

Open Minds is actually the last dystopian book I read, back in 2021, and I really liked it! In this world everyone can read minds... except for the main character. Or so she thought. It turns out that she can actually control minds! It was just a really cool concept and I really loved this world! This is a series I want to continue eventually.

YA - Aliens *insert Ancient Aliens meme here*:

The Rules! Omg I loved this book SO much! I read this one recently, like in the last year or so, and it was so good! The main character Ari is an alien hybrid just trying to live a normal life, hiding from the lab that created her. She lives by a set of rules that protect her, but as she starts spending more and more time with a classmate, she breaks more of these rules, putting her at risk of being found by the scientists who made her. There was a lot of really good action and the romance was super cute! 😍 I have read the first two books in this trilogy and loved them both! I am hoping to finish off the series soon here.

I don't remember anything about Alienated except that it had aliens and romance and I liked both aspects. Lol. This is another series I never finished, but I really liked this first book!

I also remember nothing about Invasion 😅 There's this guy fighting aliens... I don't know. Past me really loved the story, according to my review, so there's that 😂

YA - Kids with powers:

This is such a terrible post... I don't remember much of Ultraviolet either 🙈 There was this girl with superpowers and I think at one point she tries to escape from the mental hospital that she was in? In my defense, I read this in 2011, so 😅 But cool powers and twists and turns... That's good in my book. Lol.

Powerless was SO good! This duology was more of a superhero/supervillain situation, and it really made you wonder who the bad guys in this world really were. I loved it!

Cassidy Jones and the Secret Forumla is very superhero-origin-story coded and I loved it! It also takes place in Seattle which, as a Washingtonian, I enjoyed. Lol.

Ghost Hand is kinda hard to explain... the main character has a ... ghost hand. Okay, that wasn't that hard 😅😂 It's a rare birth defect and this ghost hand gives her certain abilities, abilities that some people are coming after her for. I liked this one! I apparently read this book in one sitting! I was very enthusiastic about letting everyone know about that little fact in my review 🫠😂

These are not all the recommendations I have though, not even close. Lol. Sometime next week I'll post part two where I have a couple more YA books to look at. and some really good adult sci-fi horror books I've been enjoying lately!

Let me know what some of your favorite sci-fi reads are! I am always on the lookout for more sci-fi books to read!
