Sci-Fi Book Recommendations (Part 2)

So I ended up splitting this into three parts. This is part 2, part 1 is here, and I'll post part 3 next week! Lots of sci-fi to talk about! ๐Ÿ˜…

YA - Cyborgs & Androids ๐Ÿค–:

Mila 2.0 was SO good and I'm kinda mad at myself that I never continued on with the series. I do have the second book though sooo ๐Ÿ‘€ Anyway, in this book, the main character discovers that she is not in fact a human, but an android of sorts. And now people are after her hoping to exterminate her. As I said in my review, I love a good running-away-from-bad-guys story! It's been a long time since I read this book, but this is a series I definitely want to get back into.

Girl of Flesh and Metal I read more recently and really enjoyed it! In this futuristic world, Lena's parents own the biggest tech companies in the world, a company she hates. So it's unfortunate for her when she is in an accident so bad that one of her arms had to be replaced with a robotic one. A robotic arm from none other than her parents' company. That would be bad enough for anyone, but no. Her fancy new AI arm starts glitching and she starts sleepwalking at the same time people around her start dying and she begins to wonder if it's her behind these murders ๐Ÿ˜ฎ I have read the entirety of this trilogy and I really enjoyed it overall! I was not a big fan of the love triangle (but then I hate all love triangles ๐Ÿ˜†) but I loved everything else about it!

YA - Sci-fi horror:

I really enjoyed this duology! I have always been fascinated by dreams so this book was right up my alley! In this series, a bunch of kids with all sorts of different traumas participate in an experiment to help with their insomnia. Unfortunately for them, things go way wrong and they end up getting stuck in some pretty horrifying nightmares. It definitely gave me A Nightmare on Elm Street vibes, which is one of my favorite horror movies! My only gripe with this duology is that I felt like it was split up unnecessarily. Luckily, I had the second book ready to go as soon as I finished the first one. Lol.

YA - Marissa Meyer (Yes, she gets her own category! ๐Ÿ˜†):

The moment I read my first Marissa Meyer book (Cinder), she quickly became a favorite author! I love her writing SO much! The Lunar Chronicles in particular is a series I love to pieces! These books are fairy tale retellings but SCI-FI! It's SO good! I love it so much!

And the Renegades is a series about superheroes and villains, and a series that makes you question who the bad guys really are. I loved following Nova as she struggled between maintaining her loyalty to the Anarchists and embracing her newfound friendship with the Renegades. It was such a good read!

YA - Sci-fi thriller:

Omg Malice was SO good!! In this book the main character Alice is trying to figure out who in her school will release a virus that will decimate 2/3 of the world's population. There was this fun sci-fi twist I was not expecting and I just loved it! And another thing I loved: the romance ๐Ÿ˜ It was so freaking cute! ๐Ÿฅฐ

YA - Space opera:

This trilogy was such a fun ride! I really liked the story and the characters! I didn't love the romance though ๐Ÿ˜… Two of the three romantic relationships felt forced in my opinion. I loved the third one though! But aside from that, I loved the characters as individuals and it was a really solid series overall!

YA - Sci-fi fantasy:

I feel like this book is the one that really got me started on my journey into high fantasy books. I used to read one here and there, but this book left me wanting more! The mystery of the four dead queens was intriguing, plus the world-building was really good! It was this blend of your typical high fantasy setting with some sci-fi aspects sprinkled in. This queendom is split into four quadrants and each of them were really different from one another. We briefly visited a quadrant that was very futuristic and downright dystopian in nature. But it was really cool!

YA & MG - Multiverses:

Practical Applications For Multiverse Theory I read a while back, but I remember loving it! From what I remember, other universes start bleeding into this one and the result is wacky chaos. It was SO fun! This book was hilarious!

Sal and Gabi Break the Universe is in the same vein as the previous book, but this one is a middle-grade novel. It was also really fun though! This one is a duology but I have not read the second book yet. It's on my list though! Lol.

NA & YA - Time loops:

And we are ending today's post with some contemporary romances with a twist! A time loop twist to be exact! See You Yesterday was more New Adult, and The Do-Over was YA. They both have a pretty similar premise where the characters are stuck in a time loop they are trying to get out of while maybe falling in love. The science behind the See You Yesterday time loop was interesting and I really liked the romance, but I adored The Do-Over! This was the first Lynn Painter book I read and I loved it! Her romances are just so cute and they make my cold, dead heart feel warm and fuzzy inside ๐Ÿ˜๐Ÿ˜‚

That's it for all my YA (and NA and MG) recommendations. Next week's post will include adult sci-fi books! And like I said in the last post, please let me know some of YOUR sci-fi recommendations! I cannot get enough of the genre!

  1. oohh I've read 7 of these *high fives myself* ๐Ÿ˜‚

This is the first time I've seen someone talking about Dreamfall, it's such a good duology. I've read it years ago and have no idea how I even found it, but I'm sad it's so underhyped๐Ÿ˜…

Aurora Rising and Cinder were of course, absolutely amazing. The Do Over is on my TBR so I'll get to it one day ๐Ÿ˜„ Girl of Flesh and Metal sounds so good so I'm adding that one as well

    1. Yeah, I don't see too many people talk about Dreamfall which is a shame because it was really good! And yes, you definitely need to read The Do-Over! I cannot get over how cute it was!
