Dewey's Reverse Readathon: July 2025
I don't think I did a readathon AT ALL in 2024. It was honestly probably because I had a pretty good reading year overall. Lol. I tend to do readathons more when I'm struggling, as I have been this year 😆 Unfortunately, every time one of these comes around, without fail, I have something going on 😂 It's crazy! There was one in April that I wanted to do, but I wasn't able to because I was in California on vacation. Well, this readathon starts today and ends tomorrow, and I have a cousin coming into town tomorrow 😂 I'm gonna see if we can do something on Sunday instead. Lol.
So for me, where I live, this will start at 5pm TONIGHT, and it's ending tomorrow, Saturday, at 5pm. Like always, I will NOT be staying up to read. I love sleep too much 😂 But even if I didn't, my exhausted, anemic self couldn't do it anyway. Lol. I'm too tired these days 😆 But I will try to read as much as I can tonight. I'm pretty sure I could read a short book or a manga or two before the night is over.
As for updates... Idk. I used to do them on Twitter. I might do them on Threads this year? Idk. I also just joined the Goodreads group. I may just end up editing this post and doing my updates here in combination with a quick update on my Monday post.
Anyway, you can go HERE for more info on the readathon!
As for what I'll be reading... that is a very good question 😆 So I have a ton of books, manga especially, from the library, so that will be a good choice. And I'm also doing my Summer-y Fear Street re-read, and those books are super short, so again, also good choices. However, the books I really want to focus on are ARCs I've received recently:
I've got a little bit of everything here, which I don't know how it will go, me being a mood reader and all. Lol. But She Waits for You Beyond the Dark is YA horror with some Japanese mythology that I have really been looking forward to! A Touch of Treachery is by my favorite author lol, and it is an adult urban fantasy full of spies, action, and magic! Also, very excited for this one. If Looks Could Kill, I'm not too sure about. I grabbed it on a whim. Lol. All I know is that it's YA and it involves Medusa and Jack the freaking Ripper, so 👀 And last, I just got A Dragon Rider's Guide to Retirement like two days ago and I can't wait!! This is a cozy fantasy written by Julia Huni, and if you've been here any amount of time, that name may sound familiar because I devour her cozy sci-fi books like no one's business 😆 So I'm really looking forward to reading something a little bit different from her.
Friday, 6pm Update:
I started the readathon a couple of minutes late. After work, I stopped by one of my favorite Thai places to grab some food. I got home at like 4:15pm, took a shower, ate, and finally sat down with my first book an hour later. Lol.
And there is also a bingo card! The bingo card is what inspired me to grab takeout 😆 (I also texted one of my brothers lol).
I've only read one chapter of my book so far, so I'm going to get back into it. I've also put on a reading stream in the background because I cannot stand the quiet, not even when I'm reading 😆 I'll see you in a couple hours!
Friday, 11pm Update:
I have read 69% (nice 😏) of this book in almost 5 hours... I feel like I'm a slow reader 😅 But hey, it's prgress! So I'll take it! Lol.
I actually have just under two hours left of this book, but I don't think I'm going to finish it tonight. I was already falling asleep like an hour ago. Lol. But don't worry because I'll be up bright and early tomorrow at like 5am! Why? Because my body doesn't know how to sleep in anymore 😭😭😭 (This is the time I wake up during the week for work 🥲)
As for the bingo card, so far so good!
Saturday, 8am Update:
Good morning 😌 I woke up at 6:15am today, which was actually much later than I expected. Lol. But hey, I'll take sleeping in! Lol. I read for about two hours this morning and I finished my first book! Yay!
I have read a total of 6 hours and 16 minutes so far this readathon, finished a 345-page book, and I'm doing really well on my bingo! Now I'm gonna go have breakfast and pick out my next book to read. I'm stuck between She Waits For You Beyond the Dark and A Touch of Treachery. I want to read the former because it's shorter, but I'm definitely leaning more toward the latter because it's a Jennifer Estep book 😆 I'll be back in a couple hours to let you know what my mood decided. Lol.
Saturday, 12:30pm Update:
Remember when I said that something always comes up during one of these readathons? Well, I had no plans today, but then I suddenly found myself going to Costco and I lost some reading time 😭 I bought myself an ice cream from there to make myself feel better though 😆
It looks like I only read about 2 hours since my last update. I'm about 20% into my second book, and I did end up going with A Touch of Treachery 😆 I am loving it so far... to the shock of no one 😂
And I have finished one more square in my bingo card because I technically DID go outside 😆 So after doing all that, coming home to put the groceries away, putting away the dishes and washing the dirty ones in the sink because I was already in the kitchen, so might as well... I FINALLY can sit back down to read some more. I don't know if I'll have another update, there is only like 5 hours left at this point, so I may just come at the end of it all. I really want to focus on my book. I was on track to finish it before the readathon ended, but idk if that's gonna happen now. Like I said, I'm not a fast reader. Lol.
Saturday, 5pm Update:
The readathon is officially over and I did... okay. Lol. At least that's how it feels to me. Lol. Objectively, I think I did pretty good. I finished 1.5 books, which came out to around 644 pages. And I read for almost 12 hours in the last 24 hours. So, I'll take it! I didn't end up doing all of the bingo card, but 7/9 isn't bad!
I actually stopped just as things were getting interesting and we find out the villain's motivation for the things she's done in this book... and I need to know what happens next! The characters are about to be in some serious trouble 😬 However, I'm also going through some Sims 4 withdrawals, so I think I'm gonna go play some of that 😆 I may read more later tonight, but my plan is to finish this book tomorrow! It's SO good!
Let me know if you're joining in on this readathon and what you'll be reading!
omgosh I know this is ridiculous since I'm reading this 2 days after it ended, but I had so much fun reading about how your readathon went! I just wish I was at home when it happened so I could've tracked everything "in real time" 😂😂
ReplyDeleteI realized that I love the idea of readathons, and I love reading (or watching on YT) about people doing them, but for some reason, I rarely attempt them myself 😅
Haha I'm glad! I love a readathon, but like I said, they always end up being interrupted by one thing or another. Lol. There's another one happening in October that I think I'm going to be doing 👀
Deleteoohh well you can count me in as your resident stalker 👀 I mean that in the best way possible 😂🥰
DeleteWell, you're in luck because I'm gonna be attempting as many as I can the rest of this year. Lol.
DeleteI can never do a readathon because sometimes I have those days where I can just read read read, but as soon as I try to do that, something pops up, like your trip to Costco. And now with doing more with my mom, I don't even have my meals to read all the time either. Great job!

Yes! Exactly! And it's every single time! It's wild! And I totally get you about meals, especially because I hate cooking myself 😂 But I usually do these during the weekend where I don't cook as much so 😂
