This is a tag I've been doing yearly for a couple years now, and I just really enjoy it. (Here's the one from last year.) It's always fun to look back at the books I read early on in the year. The idea for this post originated at girlxoxo.
The first book of the year that I read was Write Your Own Cake, which is a nonfiction book about writing long series. Well, the author actually calls it an essay, and it is pretty short, so the first full-length novel that I technically read was Cold Eternity. Really enjoyed both!
I'm telling you now, this was a rough reading year. I didn't give out my first 5-star rating until March! That one went to volume 3 of Sakamoto Days. The first full-length book I gave 5 stars to was The Romara Confrontation, which I read in April. Loved that book!
The first book I reviewed was the first book I read! I started off the year with good intentions when it comes to reviewing. And then I fell behind... again 🤦♀️😂
This was also the first 2025 release I read this year.
This book was so good 😭 That ending almost made me cry 🥲
The ending of this book was INSANE!! I literally stayed up till like midnight finishing it, and then the next day I went to the library the moment it opened to get the next book 😆
I feel like I have been in a reading slump ALL year. It was around the time I read this book that I started feeling like I was coming out of it 😌

I'm too much of a completionist to DNF books, which is NOT a good thing 😅
My favorite author, Jennifer Estep!
I believe this was the debut of this author. It was a fun one!
The first book I read by a new-to-me author was the manga A Gentle Noble's Vacation Recommendation. And the first full-length novel was Dreadful.
I don't want to talk about it 🙃
This was so much fun! I need to finish the series!
First manga! It was a fun one! I'm still upset because I felt like this was queer baiting me, though 😒😂
I re-read this one back in May in preparation for the movie! And yes, the book was better. Lol.
