January 2025 TBR (And End of the Year/Vacation TBR Update)

I don't usually do TBRs because I'm a mood reader and my mood changes too much, too fast. Lol. But I'm going to be trying something new this year, so we will see how it goes. Lol.

But before we get to that, let's take a look at the the tbr I made for the end of the year/for when I was on vacation (I'm still on vacation, actually... for like another week πŸ˜† It's fine. Lol.)

These first four books are books I wanted to read before I left on vacation. That didn't happen. Lol. I did finish The Hero of Ages before I left, but then I ended up returning the next two books back to the library. Fake Skating, I also have from the library, but as an ebook. I should be starting that one today!

And then these next 6 books were books I was planning on reading on vacation. However, last minute, I decided to not bring those 3 books with the Xs on them with me. Lol. BUT I did read The Nightmare Before Kissmass and Accomplice to the Villain. And then after I finish Fake Skating, I'm gonna be starting the second Dungeon Crawler Carl book. So yeah. I'm technically still not done with this tbr, but I AM still on vacation and actively working on it πŸ˜†

At the end of 2025, I was actually attempting to fulfill some prompts in my reading challenges... for once πŸ˜†And I did that by randomly picking out prompts. It actually went really well so I figured I would continue that into the new year! So what I did here is I printed out all of my reading challenge prompts and put them in a container. To start off, I only picked out 3 random prompts because I really don't know how well my mood will cooperate. Lol. But if all goes well, I will pick out more as soon as I finish these 3! But yeah, I am actually going to try to complete all of my reading challenges this year! No promises, though. Lol.

(Ignore the letters in the parentheses... that's just to help me remember what challenges these prompts come from. Lol. And given that all 3 of these come from different challenges, I could use ONE book for all 3 prompts... I didn't find one, though. Lol.)

Title starts with 'K'

The first prompt I picked out was to read a book whose title starts with 'K' (this is for the Alphabet Soup Reading Challenge). I could not find a book I wanted to read that started with 'K,' so I ended up going with the manga Kindergarten Wars! My library has it, luckily, and I just got the notification that it's on the way! So, I will have this book ready to go when I get back home. Anyway, this manga is about an assassin who works protecting kids of really powerful people... or something? Idk. It sounds cool. Lol

Artificial intelligence

The next prompt I picked was to read a book with AI, and this is from the This Challenge Killed the Bookworm Reading Challenge. There's a horror book coming out in Januaray that features AI and I really want to read it, and I still might, BUT it comes out later in the month. So, instead, I ended up going with Carl's Doomsday Scenario, the second book in the series. Like I said, I'm going to be reading this book soon, since I brought it with me on vacation. As for the AI part of the book, there's this AI in the first book (I assume it's gonna be in this second book too lol) that's psychotic and is obsessed with Carl in the most weird way possible πŸ˜‚ I love it!!

Black and white cover

The last prompt I got was to read a book that has a black and white cover (for the Candy Reading Challenge). At home, I currently still have Warbreaker from the library (I actually need to check when it's due back πŸ˜…) and I really want to read it! I freaking loved Mistborn and I already miss the series. This is the next book of the Cosmere universe if we're going by publishing order, which is how I decided to read the Cosmere, so I think I want to try and read this one for this prompt. If not, then one of the following Junji Ito manga could probably fit this prompt too. Lol.

A gifted book

This prompt is not one I picked out randomly. It comes from the Go With the Flow Reading Challenge where there is a prompt for each month, so I figured I would include it here too. For January, the prompt is to read a book that was gifted to you. I was panicking a little because I'm never gifted books (I am so easy to shop for! Just give me books! πŸ˜πŸ˜‚) The creator of the challenge then said that ARCs gifted by authors/publishers also counted, so I was gonna read my one 2026 ARC I have for this. But then I remembered that I WAS gifted two books for my birthday last month by one of my cousins! She gets me 😌 Lol. Anyway, she gave me two Junji Ito manga and I am SO excited! I have not read Junji Ito yet, but I love horror AND manga, so I'm really looking forward to them! I think I'm only going to read one of them, I just don't know which one yet πŸ˜…

Let me know if you've read any of these books or what is on your TBR for the month! 😊
