Synopsis:

Cassidy knows everything about Chad—everything, that is, except how to get him to notice her. Someday, somehow, she vows, those deep blue eyes are going to look her way. In the meantime, she's got plenty of other things to worry about.

Cassidy has always been happy to be the studious, reliable type—until Elise and her good-looking brother move into the neighborhood. Elise is determined to introduce Cassidy to the partying life. But will Elise's Carpe Diem ways land Cassidy in more trouble than she's prepared for? Can a girl be smart and have fun too? Cassidy is about to find out.

My rating: ★★★★☆

Cassidy has had a crush on Chad since forever and she’s trying to get him to notice her, but it only results in some really awkward situations. Lol. And I loved it! It’s absolutely hilarious! Janette Rallison is so good at writing these sort of scenes. I felt super embarrassed for the characters, but also I could not stop laughing!

Jensen

Anyway, Cassidy’s best friend just moved away and a new girl, Elsie, moves into that house with her family. Including a hot older brother, Josh.

wink

Josh was the sweetest thing ever! I definitely preferred him over Chad, to be honest. Cassidy was so fixated on Chad when a much better guy was right in front of her. I just loved him! And he was such a sweet, loving brother too.

“I’m Josh Benson.” He nodded over to a table where Olivia and Abby had gone back to dipping their cookies into the bowl of frosting. “Those are my sisters. Unless they’re misbehaving, and then they’re Elise’s sisters.”

And since we’re on the subject of characters, two side characters, Samantha and Chelsea, actually have their own book in the sequels of this Pullman High series (Pullman being a town in Washington and I live in WA, so that’s pretty cool)! I really liked the characters—they were fun and very relatable! Plus, Cassidy and Josh? So much YES! They were so cute together! This whole book was freaking cute! I never thought I’d say this, but I really liked this contemporary book! I never used to read contemporaries because they’re just too everyday-life for me. But I loved Janette Rallison’s other paranormal books, and her writing in general, so I had to give her contemporaries a chance. And I do not regret it one bit! She just writes the most sweetest romances and I love it!

In addition to being super cute, the story was also very fun and actually quite realistic in what a teen would go through in their life.

“We’ve learned you can’t trust fairy godmothers to get you to the ball. If you want to go someplace in life, you have to get there yourself.”

My one gripe with this book is that it ends almost abruptly! Other reviews mention this as well, and I totally agree! Everything does get resolved at the end, but there is no real falling action—things aren’t wrapped up nicely with a bow. It just sort of... stops. But hey, I got his book for free when it was a freebie on Amazon one time, so I can’t really complain too much! I really liked this first book in this series so I’m excited for the other two books!

Have you read this book? If so, what did you think about it? If not, what do you think? Does it sound like something you might want to read? Leave me a link to your review or comment below! :)
