Synopsis:

Hunting for the bad guys has never been so dangerous . . .

My name is Rory Forseti, and I attend the Colorado branch of Mythos Academy, a school of warrior kids, powerful artifacts, and mythological monsters.

I’m a student, a fierce Spartan warrior, and a member of Team Midgard, a group of kids and adults tasked with stopping the evil Reapers of Chaos. There is one Reaper I’m determined to hunt down above all others: Covington, the man who murdered my parents.

So when the Midgard gets a tip that Covington is going to try to steal a dangerous artifact, I’m ready to fight. But the situation is far more complicated than it seems, and the Reapers aren’t my only enemies.

I’ll have to use all my Spartan strength and skills to survive this. And even then, it might be my blood that gets spilled...

My rating: ★★★★★

I always know I’m in for an amazing time with any Jennifer Estep book, and this one was no different! In my eyes, Jennifer Estep can do no wrong! I just love her writing and characters and the amazing, interesting worlds she’s created! And one of my favorite worlds EVER of any book I have read is the world of Mythos Academy. Look, I love mythology, and the fact that she blends so many different mythologies together seamlessly is just a plus. I love the mythos, yes, but I also love all of these great characters that bring the world to life!

First, I need to mention how cute Zoe and Rory’s friendship is! I love them! I am so happy that Rory has found friends because she deserves every little bit of happiness she can get after all the awful things that have happened. But, unfortunately, awful things aren’t done happening to her yet...

And don’t get me started on Rory and Ian...

They were SO cute! I loved them! It was really fun seeing them flirting and being all awkward with one another... I loved it so much! Their interactions just gave me all the swoons! Especially at the end when they’re having a heart to heart 😍 Just get together already! Lol.

Babs noticed [Ian] too. “I’m telling you, Rory. You need to grab that boy and kiss him before it’s too late—”
“Quiet!” I hissed. “Here he comes!”

Same Babs, same. Lol. I loved Babs egging Rory on, it was so funny! I felt Rory’s embarrassment. Lol. But in all seriousness, this is actually what I love about Jennifer Estep’s character development: there is no instalove in sight! It’s all a slow burn and I love every second of it! Especially because Ian is such a sweetheart. And although Rory is seriously crushing on the hot Viking boy, she has a pretty valid reason for her reservations in starting up a thing with Ian. As much as I want them to get together, I get it.

My parents had already crushed my heart with their lies, and I didn’t want to get hurt again, especially not by the Viking, who could break my heart in a completely different but equally painful way.

I just love Rory! One of the things I like about her is that she is very independent and doesn’t need no man to fight her battles for her because she can do it herself... I really love that! And it’s not that she’s turning away that help, she just want to be treated like an equal, not a damsel in distress. Much respect, Rory. Much respect.

“Don’t worry, Rory,” he called out. “We’ll save you.”
“Don’t you worry,” I countered. “I’ll save myself.”
Ian grinned a little at my confidence...

Yes girl! I also love that she is very compassionate, even to those who have not treated her the best in the past. And her anticipation for a fight, and thinking how fun it could possibly be taken her Spartan skills, it reminds me a bit of Gin Blanco and I am totally okay with that. Lol. I love them! And there is a thing that happens to Rory, that I wont say because spoilers, but because her parents were Reapers (and there’s probably some other reasons) the bad guys want her too. And this thing that happens to her is awful and it was so suspenseful because I didn’t know if she was going to be able to get out of it. But Rory is such a strong character and I admire her so much for that! She knows her parents were bad, but she is fighting so hard to show others that she is not like them. She is amazing!

As with all other Jennifer Estep books, this book is full of fun Easter Eggs from her other series! We get a cameo from a character from the OG Mythos Academy series! And I wont say who, because it was a nice surprise for me ;) But I was so excited to see her! We also get mentions of Cypress Mountain, where Rory’s cousin Gwen lives, yay! Ashland, where the notorious assassin the Spider (aka Gin Blanco) lives! I love Gin! And Cloudburst Falls, where Lila lives, also gets a mention! A lochness monster playing football. That is all. Lol.

A couple other things I liked: Yum food. Always yum food. I love it! It makes me drool every time. Lol. And Baby Brono, the gryphon, is so freaking cute! I love him! Especially his playfulness with Babs

I was so happy to be back in the Mythos Academy world because it is one of my all time favorite series... and I have read a lot of series. Lol. This was just a great follow up in the Mythos Academy Spinoff series! And if you have not started on this series, what are you waiting for?! Get on it! (Also read Jennifer Estep’s other books because they are equally amazing! She has a little bit of everything for everyone! Check them out!) I’m very excited to see what’s next in store for Rory and her friends!

About a year ago I did some nail art inspired by the first book, Spartan Heart, so go check that out!
