Synopsis:

Ellie's pursuit of a possessed friend and her own worst enemy takes her across the United States into forgotten corners of the countryside through haunted hotels, ghost towns, and strange highways, and toward the site of a horrific fire haunted by hundreds of spirits.

Together with her team, plus help from an eccentric exorcist from Texas, she prepares for the fight of her life, a fight destined since her own childhood.

Ellie's past and present collide in a final confrontation that will give her a chance to finally be rid of her most dangerous personal demon—if he doesn't kill Ellie first, along with the people she cares about the most.

My rating: ★★★★★

This book was amazing! This was a very personal case for Ellie, finally facing down the ghost that murdered her parents all those years ago. Except she’s gotta chase this fire-loving ghost across the country because he has taken Michael’s sister, Melissa, along for the dangerous ride.

His mind straddled atop hers, like a rider on a feisty horse... but she was not yet entirely broken, and tried again and again to buck him off.

I love that even though Clay was possessing Melissa’s body, Melissa kept fighting him throughout the whole thing! And the reason we know this is because we get Clay POVs! I think we’ve ever only had Ellie narrate the series, but this was a cool change. We got to see how insane and messed up he actually is. And okay we already knew he was screwed up, but we got to see this first hand and see the awful, disgusting thoughts that went through his mind. It was so gross! I could not believe how twisted he was and the things that brought him pleasure.

And Ellie, as always, was amazing! I loved seeing her finally take on this horrible demon from her past and seeing how she dealt with things. She is such a strong, smart character, and so relatable too! I just love her and after everything that she’s been through, she deserves some happiness in her life. Which is where Michael comes in. Things between them didn’t end well last Halloween, and that made me so incredibly sad because I loved them together. But I hope things will be on the mend for them because, even under the circumstances, Michael and Ellie were super cute together in this book.

Another couple I love are Stacey and Jacob! They are so funny and cute and I just love them! And Jacob’s psychic abilities come in handy too 😉 Lol.

“We need to assume Clay is out there waiting for us, even if he isn’t. This is not a drill, people.”
“It’s not a jackhammer either,” Stacey said.
“Nor a pneumatic press,” Jacob added.

We are also introduced to a new character, Nealon, an exorcist or something. Look, he’s got a very elaborate title and I don’t remember what it is. Lol. But he was so eccentric it was hilarious!

The crowd began to mutter around us; apparently the guy swinging a shark-tooth sword while yapping about witchcraft and demons was making them uneasy for some reason.

I really enjoyed this book, like, a lot! I loved seeing Ellie facing this thing that has been tormenting her since she was basically a kid. And although we’ve seen Clay in the past, things go down in this book! The final battle was insane, but in a good way! Clay had all these things up his sleeve, but don’t discount Ellie because she is just as wise and she surprised me with the things she brought out to fight Clay! It was great! I also liked that they sort of went on this cross country trip tracking down Clay. It was just very different from the other books, and I appreciate that. I adore all of these characters and this series in general and I am looking forward to seeing what else is in store for them! And if you have not yet started on this series, I highly recommend it!
