Synopsis: In the aftermath of the Fallows disappearance, the Tomlins brothers learn to cope without Maximus's guidance. Determined to develop their powers, Joel and his brothers practise the art of witchcraft in the safety of the mansion. But when a surprise arrival shows up at their door, the boys are divided. With Maggie caught in the middle, and the Tomlinses at risk, the small town of Blackheath prepares for a new power to take over.

A storm is coming.

In fact, it's already here.

My rating: ★★★★☆

I adored the previous book! It was a very fun book about a cursed girl who seeks the help of her witch-y classmate and then sparks fly. It was just great, so I was very excited for this one! And while I did enjoy it, I actually didn’t love it as much as I thought I would.

But one of my favorite things about this duology are all the fun characters! Take the alleged aunts, for example. They are just random “family” that shows up at their place every once in a while. “Family,” hence why they are called the alleged aunts 😂

Joel sighed. “It’s nice to meet you, Alleged Third-or-Fourth Cousin Opal.”

It’s so funny! And I love the witchy brothers themselves. I love their relationship 🖤

“And try to be normal,” Joel added.
Ainsley withdrew in horror. “You be normal,” he shot back.
Evan held up his palms. “Look, everyone just... be normal.”
The boys let out a collective sigh.

I love them! Ainsley is just so funny, but also very smart. He’s quite intuitive for being so young. Pippin is super cute! And I love how cool Evan, the oldest, is about everything. Actually, the relationship between him and Joel is amazing. Everyone expects so much from Evan because he’s the “chosen one.” But Joel is there for his brother, telling him it’s okay to let loose every once in a while and make mistakes. It was SO sweet. I loved this!

One thing I could’ve used more of is some more of that Joel/Maggie alone time 😉 The moments they did have were super cute (that scene in chemistry class?? Yes please! 😍), but I just wanted more! Lol. We actually did get to learn more about Maggie and Joel’s past back when they were friends and what exactly happened that made them stop being friends. The revelations in this book about that and just about Joel’s family was very intriguing!

Speaking of Joel’s family, Kaden, his half brother, is back and apparently not as horrible as he was in the last book?? Yeah, I don’t buy it. I get why the boys wanted to trust him, him being their half brother and all, but just no. You hardly know the guy AND he tried to kill you! And now you’re okay with him being here?? Whiplash much? I, for one, didn’t trust him for a second. Although we did learn something about him that made me terribly sad for the guy. His childhood was not great. Poor guy.

Another thing I loved about this series is the magic! It is just so cool! But what I wasn’t a fan of was the end when a THING happens to Maggie... I don’t know why, but I just did not like the direction the story went. I was just not vibing with it 🤷‍♀️

But overall, I did enjoy the book. It was a lot of fun, the interactions between the characters and the dialogue was just great, and the story itself was interesting. I obviously loved the magic as well, and the fact that we have male witches instead of your typical female witches. I am definitely looking forward to reading more books by this author—I loved the writing!
