Synopsis: The Fear name brings fortune... and doom.

The dark power of the Fear family consumes all those connected with it. The Fears. Those they love—and hate. The entire town of Shadyside. All are tainted forever by the evil of the family’s curse. No one can escape.

Nora Goode and Daniel Fear hoped to end the curse of the Fear family. But on their wedding day, a horrible fire swept through the Fear mansion, taking the life of every member of the doomed family.

Except one. A new Fear. The child of Nora and Daniel. Will he be able to live his life untouched by the evil of his family? Or will the dark forces claim yet another Fear for their own?

My rating: ★★★☆☆

It has been a minute since I visited Fear Street, so I thought it was time to get back to it. I actually only have two more Fear Street series to read before I’m completely caught up, and honestly, it makes me so sad. I love this world so much!

One of my favorite- no, my ACTUAL favorite Fear Street series is the Fear Street Saga trilogy (not to be confused with this series, Fear Street Sagas). The trilogy tells the story of the Fears and the Goodes, how their feud got started, the Fear curse, and basically the history of why Fear Street is the creepy way it is. I love it so much! During the trilogy, Nora Fear (a former Goode who married Daniel Fear) is telling her story and how the Fear mansion burned down. Well, this book picks up right where that one left off! It’s why I was so excited to read this! And in this book, we learn that she is pregnant with Daniel’s child!! This is a big deal because in the trilogy, many of the characters tried to break the curse and dissipate the feud, and one way the characters thought they would be able to achieve that is if a Fear and a Goode got married (and maybe had a kid)! Anyway, it obviously didn’t work, hence this book and series 😆

The first part of the book is basically just Nora trying to get herself and her son Nicholas to safety. The way Nora was so unhinged... I loved it! It was so crazy, but it was all to protect her son, which honestly I respect. She obviously now knows of the Fear curse and she only wants the best for Nicholas, without the Fear curse anywhere near him. The journey to safety though, Nora really went through it. It was wild and gruesome and I enjoyed every minute of it! 😆 That’s one of the things I love about these books: how creatively gory they can get. There was one death in the second part that was honestly questionable because I don’t think it’s possible for someone to die in that way, but honestly, I didn’t even care 😆 It was creative and therefore I loved it. Lol.

Speaking of the second part of the book, it follows an 18-year-old Nicholas as he tries to piece together his past and where he came from. After everything that Nora went through to get him away from the evil surrounding the Fear family, Nicholas is dragged back into things by the curse. And as soon as he sets foot in Shadyside, things go bad for Nicholas. Really bad.

He had only been in town a few days, but he seemed to have brought the Fear bad luck back to Shadyside.

Oh, honey, no. It’s not bad luck. It’s a curse and everyone around you is probably going to die

And boy do they start dying! And on top of that, everyone thinks it’s Nicholas doing it because he’s a Fear. Yikes. I really enjoyed the story and the mystery behind who was killing all these people. I actually really enjoyed this book... up until the end. I was not a fan of the end. It’s meant to be your typical Fear Street plot twist, which I enjoy sometimes, but I don’t think it worked here. It didn’t make sense for the character. And I am aware that this book was ghostwritten, though I don’t really think that had much to do with my enjoyment of the book because there are some books written by the actual R.L. Stine that I haven’t liked, so. Lol. I actually enjoyed the writing! It was well done! You could tell it was written by someone else, but that’s not necessarily a bad thing. But yeah, I liked this for the most part. That ending was not it though.

Have you read this book? If so, what did you think about it? If not, what do you think? Does it sound like something you might want to read? Leave me a link to your review or comment below! 😊
