I love doing this survey because not only does it include questions relating to books, but also blogging! (I did end up removing some questions here and there, but it's pretty much the same to previous years.) I borrowed some of the images below from The Perpetual Page Turner, the creator of this fun survey 😊
Number of Books You Read: 90 books (so far!)
Number of Re-Reads: 5 books
Genre You Read The Most From: Urban Fantasy 🥰
1. Best book you read:
This book was SO fun! It just made me so happy to be back in this world. AND it was also very Halloween-y, which is around the time when I read this, so that made it even better!
2. Book you were excited about and thought you were going to love more but didn’t:
I love a good sci-fi horror and I loved the premise of this one, but it just ended up having a lot of family drama that I just didn't care about.
3. Most surprising (in a good way or bad way):
I owned this book for a while and it sounded really fun, but I was not expecting HOW MUCH fun I had with it! Such an entertaining read!
4. Book you “pushed” the most people to read (and they did):
I think Mira Grant in general 😆 One of my cousins is currently reading this one, which is about KILLER MERMAIDS and it is SO good!
5. Best series you started this year, best sequel, and best series ender:
A YA high fantasy, a Middle Grade urban fantasy/Greek mythology, and an Adult horror comedy. All of these were so good!
6. Favorite new author you discovered this year:
I feel like this is kinda cheating because before I started the manga I had seen the anime so I knew I would like this 😆 But it's such a fun series! Plus, look at how cute Anya is! I love the art as well!
7. Best book from a genre you don’t typically read/was out of your comfort zone:
I don't read a lot of contemporary romance, but it's a genre I'm slowly getting into. And this book, OMG the way it gave me a book hangover! I loved it though!
8. Most action-packed/thrilling/unputdownable book:
To be fair, all of Jennifer Estep's books are action-packed, and that is just one of the things I love about her books!
9. Book you read this year that you would be MOST likely to re-read next year:
Of the books I have read so far, I think the only ones that qualify for this question are these two Percy Jackson books. I actually re-read the Heroes of Olympus series this year in preparation for reading these two, so it's possible! I don't know if it will actually happen though, but I did like these a lot.
10. Favorite cover of a book you read this year:
Listen, it's purple and it matches my blog perfectly 😆
11. Most memorable character:
It's gotta be Percy Jackson. Is that cheating? Lol. Idk I love him! 😆
12. Most beautifully written book:
Madeline Miller just has a way with words.
13. Most thought-provoking/life-changing book:
This book was thought-provoking indeed... it was very interesting to read about books bound in human skin 😨
14. Book you can’t believe you waited UNTIL 2024 to finally read:
I know this duology has been popular for quite some time, but I didn't really get into reading high fantasy until recently, and boy am I glad I decided to give these books I chance! I loved them!
15. Favorite passage/quote from a book you read this year:
"There have been so many times when I was scared to speak up because I was afraid somebody would think I was crazy. But I've learned that lesson now, the hard way. You have to speak the thing that you're feeling, even if it scares you. You have to tell your story. You have to raise your voice."
16. Shortest and longest books of the year:
Shortest "book" is a Better Than the Movies short story, and the longest book is the second book in the Parasitology trilogy which will probably be replaced soon because I'm reading The Sword of Kaigen right now and it's about 650 pages long. Also, Cassandra Clare was dethroned as my longest book! It used to always be one of her books, but I haven't read anything by her this year.
17. Book that shocked you the most:
Not only was this book filled with a ton of twists and turns that I did not see coming, but I also ended up enjoying this way more than I anticipated! 🥰
18. OTP OF THE YEAR (you will go down with this ship!)
WESLIZ 😍
19. Favorite non-romantic relationship:
The friendship between the original three: Percy, Annabeth, and Grover... it's SO good! And I'm aware that Percy and Annabeth are also in a romantic relationship (I actually almost picked them for the previous OTP question because Percabeth is goals 😍), but their friendship is so wholesome and supportive. I love it!
20. Favorite book you read this year from an author you’ve read previously:
Uh, you're gonna see a lot of repeats throughout this post 😅 Sorry not sorry 😆 But I loved this book, okay? I love that we got a book in Zane's POV because I love him and I've always found him to be an intriguing character.
21. Best book you read this year that you read based SOLELY on a recommendation from somebody else/peer pressure/bookstagram, etc.
Back in the summer when I was reading a lot of manga, I actually asked some friends on Goodreads for some manga recommendations, and this was one of them! I really enjoyed it! I've only read two volumes of this series, but I'm liking it so far!
22. Newest fictional crush:
The Villain omg 😍
23. Best 2024 debut:
I'm pretty sure that I have not read a 2024 debut 😅
24. Best worldbuilding/most vivid setting:
This book was mostly set in this sort of Japanese mythology-inspired hellscape and it was SO good! It was creepy and some of the descriptions were truly scary, which I loved!
25. Book that put a smile on your face/was the most FUN to read:
The way this book had me grinning like an idiot 😆
26. Book that made you cry or nearly cry:
I'm still traumatized by the end of this book 😭
27. Hidden gem of the year:
I will not shut up about Space Janitor until everyone I know reads it 😆 It's such a fun series! I love it!
28. Book that crushed your soul:
This book was cute but heartbreaking. Everything that Wes went through... 😭 My heart 😢
29. Most unique book:
I mean, this series is filled with anthropomorphic cells 😆
30. Book that made you the most mad (doesn’t necessarily mean you didn’t like it):
This question is so funny to me because in the parentheses it says that it doesn't necessarily mean that you didn't like it, but every year I've done this tag I feel like I always choose a book that I didn't like... as was the case with this one! 🙃
1. New favorite book blog/Bookstagram/Youtube channel you discovered this year:
Off the top of my head, I cannot think of anyone...
2. Favorite post you wrote:
This ^ has become one of my favorite posts to write 🥰 It's a fun retrospective.
3. Favorite bookish-related photo you took:
I'm no bookstagrammer/photographer 😂
4. Best bookish event that you participated in (author signings, festivals, virtual events, etc.)?
I'm basically a hermit. Lol. I didn't go to any events this year.
5. Most challenging thing about blogging or your reading life this year?
I feel like every year it's the same answer: writing reviews. I start off the year pretty good, but by the end I have fallen behind again 😭
6. Most popular post on your blog:
If we don't include giveaway posts, it's this one from last year! This was a fun post to do!
7. Best bookish discovery (book-related sites, bookstores, etc.):
Not really a "discovery," per se, but I did go to Powell's in Oregon in October and it was AMAZING! 😍
8. Did you complete any reading challenges or goals that you had set for yourself at the beginning of the year?
I've completed 5 of the 11 challenges so far! I'm also on track to finish the 52 in 52 Challenge, but no promises on the other ones 😅 Lol. Plus, I have also completed the Discussion challenge!
1. One book you didn’t get to this year but will be your number one priority next year:
I have a couple of 2025 ARCs that I think I'm going to start with! Like I've already mentioned, I love sci-fi horror so I am really looking forward to reading Cold Eternity!
2. Book you are most anticipating next year (non-debut):
I always look forward to any and all of Jennifer Estep's books 😌
3. 2025 debut you are most anticipating:
I am really bad at reading debuts 😅 But I recently discovered this one and it sounds good! It's a queer, sci-fi, heist situation!
4. Series ender/a sequel you are most anticipating next year:
We haven't had a book in the Section 47 series in a while, so I'm excited to finally get a new one! This series has spies and assassins and it's action-packed!
5. One thing you hope to accomplish or do in your reading/blogging life next year:
If I could stay on top of those reviews, that would be great 🙃
6. A 2025 release you’ve already read and recommend to everyone (if applicable):
I haven't read any yet, but with 2 weeks still left in the year I might decide to read one of my ARCs 👀
Let me know what some of your favorite books of 2024 were and/or what books you're most looking forward to in 2025!
