Top 5 Disappointing Books of 2024

It's time to talk about my least favorite books of the year. Fortunately, these last couple of years have been really good reading years so there aren't a lot of disappointing books I have to talk about. Only one of these I gave 2 stars to, one was a DNF, and the other three I gave 3 stars to.

Raiders of the Lost Heart sounded like such a fun and cheesy contemporary romance, but good god did I hate the romance. Not only did it feel forced, but the blatant, constant objectification was awful! Just looking at that cover makes me angry (yes, this is the one I gave 2 stars to). The book had so much potential and that's really what was disappointing.

This World is Not Yours is another book that sounded great! It's a sci-fi horror where the planet starts fighting back and it was such a cool premise! However, most of this book was nothing but a domestic drama, which is absolutely not what a signed up for.

I was enjoying The Haunting for the most part. I liked the general atmosphere and the mystery was intriguing, but the execution wasn't great. And that open-ended ending? Not great. It felt very abrupt. Since reading this book, I have learned that this author loves those open-ended endings and I just don't think they're for me, so I probably won't be reading any more of her books.

William, again, had a great premise, but not so great execution. This is another sci-fi horror but in this one the AI in a house goes murderous. I loved that premise! But the story ended up being predictable and just didn't like the characters.

And Dead Space was my only DNF of the year. This one was this sci-fi thriller but I found it BORING. It kept going off on tangents irrelevant to the story and I just couldn't. I do have another book by this author that I'm willing to give a chance to because at least with this book it didn't offend me 😆

Were there any books you read this year that were disappointing? Let me know (so I can stay away from them 😆)!

  2. Raiders of the Lost Heart was soooooo disappointing for me to DNF because it sounded perfect to me! And now I got sent a review copy invite for the 2nd book, but I had to turn it down because I know I won't like it any better. Thanks for sharing these thoughts!
