Synopsis: This comical, fantastical, romantical, New York Times bestselling, (not) entirely true story of Lady Jane Grey is “an uproarious historical fantasy that’s not to be missed” (Publishers Weekly, starred review).

In My Lady Jane, coauthors Cynthia Hand, Brodi Ashton, and Jodi Meadows have created a one-of-a-kind YA fantasy in the tradition of The Princess Bride, featuring a reluctant king, an even more reluctant queen, a noble steed, and only a passing resemblance to actual history—because sometimes history needs a little help.

At sixteen, Lady Jane Grey is about to be married off to a stranger and caught up in a conspiracy to rob her cousin, King Edward, of his throne. But those trifling problems aren’t for Jane to worry about. Jane gets to be Queen of England.

Like that could go wrong.

My rating: ★★★★☆

I'm not really one for historical-type books, but this one, for whatever reason, really appealed to me. And I'm glad I read it because I ended up really enjoying it! It was fun and ridiculous and I liked it more than I thought I would.

This was a retelling of historical events involving Lady Jane Grey, someone who I knew virtually nothing about, but with a twist. There were some humans that could shapeshift into animals.

Uh, yeah 😂 This retelling was quite embellished and I liked it! I also really liked the characters, especially Jane, who was as bookish as me. Lol. The girl preferred to pull out a book and read instead of dance at balls and stuff like that. Pulling out a book to read at parties is a thing I do more often than not 😂

I also enjoyed the romance, as well as the relationship between Jane and her cousin Edward. And I loved the self-aware narrators! Although, I'm not gonna lie, I did find myself speed reading the last part of the book because it was starting to feel long and I just wanted to be done 😅 But I enjoyed it overall. It was fun and wacky and I'm looking forward to reading about the other Janes.

Have you read this book? If so, what did you think about it? If not, what do you think? Does it sound like something you might want to read? Leave me a link to your review or comment below! 😊
