My rating: ★★★★★

Reading the beginning of this book, I could not get this song out of my head because it literally started off with a kiss, and then Ryan and Jamie were like, “How did it end up like this? It was only a kiss...” 🤣 I’m sorry, I couldn’t help myself 😆 But it was amazing 😍 It was all pretty much a bet, but what I wasn’t expecting was for Ryan to be upfront about it with Jamie. I liked him immediately! This entire scene was just amazing! This whole book was amazing! I’m kinda surprised at how much I liked it.

One of the reasons why I liked this book is the characters. So we have our main character, Jamie Baker, who acquired some supernatural abilities about a year ago due to a toxic waste/electricity accident. I kinda love how her origin story is cliche. Lol. It gave me some superhero vibes for sure. I really enjoyed following Jamie through her journey of really understanding her powers and seeing what she could do with them.

But I liked Jamie in general, not just because of her cool powers. She was very snarky and cold. I loved the snark, but I understood her frostiness toward others. She kept everyone at arm's length because she was afraid someone would discover her secret. I really felt for her. But after that steamy kiss, Ryan is curious about this girl and pursues her. His persistence and how cool he was to Jamie's frostiness was 😍 But he wasn't persistent in an obnoxious way, which I appreciated. Watching Jamie’s frostiness melt as she got close to Ryan was really nice to see. I enjoyed that!

And don’t even get me started on Ryan... I felt like Jamie’s crush on Ryan developed quite fast... which I understood because I was in the same boat 🤣 How was this guy so cute when we were only like 5 pages into the book? 😆 He was just really charming and sweet and he helped her out with certain things and it just made me love him more. And just seeing Jamie happy after the accident and the tough life she’s had... it was so nice. Ryan was just a ray of sunshine and I loved him.

I usually say I’m not really one for paranormal romance because I need more to my story than just straight romance. I also tend to prefer more plot-driven stories over character-driven, but I feel like this book was both of those things and I absolutely loved it! I guess it just has to be done right and without freaking instalove! Thank the gods! I loved Jamie and her snarkiness and how the Ice Queen melted as Ryan tried to get to know her better. And Ryan... Omg don't get me started and that boy because 😍 I absolutely loved him! He was so charming and adorable and so freaking sweet! I don't know what it is about these self-confident boys that I love so much, but I do know that I blame Jace Herondale for it 😆 And I really liked the relationship between them—it was so sweet and I enjoyed every second of it! The romance was great! Very steamy, but in a PG-13 sort of way 😆 Lol. The struggles Jamie went through with her powers and just wanting to be a normal teen but ultimately trying to control her powers and live with them—it was just a great story. And it was so much fun! I loved this book! At this point, I have read the sequel, but I did not like it very much 😬 But you know what? This makes a really good standalone! Just putting that out there 😅 Just read this one. Lol.
