Synopsis:

This Spartan makes her own destiny...

Most kids at the Colorado branch of Mythos Academy know me as Rory Forseti, the daughter of Reaper assassins. Secretly, I’m a member of Team Midgard, a group of students and adults tasked with stopping Covington, the evil leader of the Reapers of Chaos. For me, the mission is a deeply personal one, since Covington is also the man who murdered my parents.

When my friends and I get a lead on a powerful artifact that Covington wants to steal, we think we finally have a chance to thwart the Reapers and stop them for good. Team Midgard comes up with a plan, but everything goes sideways, and I’m suddenly in the fight of my life.

My worst fears might have come true, but I know what my Spartan destiny is—to save my friends, or die trying...

My rating: ★★★★★

I loved the original Mythos Academy series, so when I learned that there was going to be a spinoff series with Gwen’s cousin, I was beyond excited! But, you guys, this is it. I love the Mythos Academy world, so I am really sad that this is the end 😩 And while I’m sad that this is the end, I loved seeing Rory’s journey.

Speaking of Rory, Jennifer Estep always writes the best heroines ever! I love Rory! She is such a good person and so badass, especially with her Spartan magic. But besides that, she’s sassy even in the face of death. Lol.

As if all those teeth weren't deadly enough, it could also breathe fire. Of course it could. Because this situation couldn't get any worse than it already was.

Ian and Rory fighting the Fafnir Dragon together was so cute! Romance is another thing the Jennifer does really well, and the romance between Rory and Ian... so much yes! They are just so cute together and I loved that the book started off immediately with these two flirting. It was the cutest thing!

Just like in the previous two books, in this book we had some character appearances from the original series, and you all know how much I loved them. So yes, I was fangirling so hard I couldn’t contain it! I was kinda freaking out, but in the best way possible!

fangirling

I really love all the new characters we’ve met in this new series. Two of my favorites are Brono, the baby Griffin, and Babs, Rory’s talking sword. They are so freaking cute! Lol.

Another thing I loved about this book, about all of Jennifer’s books, is how action-packed it was! It was really intense and I found myself on the edge of my seat all throughout reading this. I loved it! The bad guy Covington was such a cunning bastard... I could not believe all he did! But Rory launches a rescue mission and it was honestly amazing! It was very strategic and Rory was very smart about who she was getting first, second, and so on. I loved this entire sequence! And that final fight at the end... it was brutal! But Rory is a damn good fighter and she was really smart about things, and I love that about her.

Being a hero wasn’t about magic or artifacts or power. It was about having the courage to keep going, to keep fighting, even when all hope was lost.

This book, overall, was just great! Which should not come as a surprise since I love anything written by this woman. Lol. I love this world and I really enjoyed following these new characters on their mission to defeat Covington and his reapers. I’m gonna miss them though, both the characters and this world in general. If you haven’t read this series yet, you definitely should! You don’t necessarily need to read the original Mythos Academy series to read this one, but I think you should cause it’s just amazing! Lol.
