Guess who’s a guest teacher in this story? Magnus freaking Bane! Yes please, and thank you! Lol. We actually got a lot of him and Alec in this one, which I always appreciate.

Alec had been cranky that day, having wrenched his arm almost out of its socket during a fight with a dragon demon. He’s been leaning against the kitchen counter, listening, nursing his arm, and texting Jace messages like y do u say things r xtinct when things r not xtinct and y r u the way that u r.

It’s funny because I distinctly remember this same scenario at the beginning of City of Ashes. Oh, Jace 😂

Anyway, Alec comes to visit Magnus at the Academy, where soon thereafter the kids find a baby warlock left at the doorstep of the academy! It was SO sad! The poor baby 😭 Now they’re all trying to figure out what to do. And seeing all these characters interact with the baby was the cutest thing ever! George was so good with him! As were Alec and Magnus! And then all the Lightwoods coddling the baby and fighting over who got to hold him—I loved that entire interaction. And then Jace with the baby... 😍 I died.

The baby flailed, one small fist bouncing off Jace’s cheek.
“That’s good,” Jace encouraged. “That’s right. Maybe a little harder next time. We’ll have you punching demons in the face in no time. Do you want to punch demons in the face with me and Alec? Do you? Yes, you do.”

Alec and Magnus had this really sweet moment where they’re deciding whether to keep the baby or not, and I just loved that scene so much! In the end, yes they do end up keeping the baby, which made me so happy! I actually already knew they were going to adopt a baby warlock, but that didn’t lessen my enjoyment of this story at all! AND THEY NAMED THE BABY MAX! 😭 Excuse me while I go cry in the corner.

But yeah, I absolutely loved this! Out of all the stories in the book, this was hands down my favorite! It was just so cute! And it involved my favorite couple, Malec, sooo 😏
