Synopsis:

Over the last year I've gone against faceless women, disfigured spirits, and grotesque revenants. Some people keep dangerous hobbies; skydiving and driving at monster truck rallies and glacier surfing. Me? I cast my soul into the churning waters of potential damnation and wait for a bite.

It’s been two years since Tark Halloway’s nightmare ended. Free from the evil spirit that haunted him all his life, he now aids the ghostly Okiku and avenges the souls of innocent children by hunting down their murderers. But when Okiku becomes responsible for a death at his high school, Tark begins to wonder if they’re no better than the killers they seek out.

When an old friend disappears in Aokigahara, Japan’s infamous ‘suicide forest’, both must resolve their differences and return to that country of secrets to find her.

Because there is a strange village inside Aokigahara, a village people claim does not exist. A village where strange things lie waiting.

A village with old ghosts and an ancient evil – one that may be stronger than even Okiku...

My rating: ★★★★★

The Suffering... Weeeeeee! Not usually something you say about a horror book, but I loved it!

So this is a sequel/companion book to The Girl from the Well that is, this time around, told in the POV of Tark, yay! I loved him in the last book and loved him even more in this one! I also loved that it was a male POV, which I always find refreshing and feel there should be more of... Just saying.

Synopsis:

Old habits die hard for assassins.

And I plan on murdering someone before the night is through.

Killing used to be my regular gig, after all. Gin Blanco, aka the Spider, assassin-for-hire. And I was very, very good at it. Now, I’m ready to make the one hit that truly matters: Mab Monroe, the dangerous Fire elemental who murdered my family when I was thirteen. Oh, I don’t think the mission will be easy, but turns out it’s a bit more problematic than expected. The bitch knows I’m coming for her. So now I’m up against the army of lethal bounty hunters Mab hired to track me down. She also put a price on my baby sister’s head. Keeping Bria safe is my first priority. Taking Mab out is a close second. Good thing I’ve got my powerful Ice and Stone magic—and my irresistible lover, Owen Grayson—to watch my back. This battle has been years in the making, and there’s a good chance I won’t survive. But if I’m going down, then Mab’s coming with me . . . no matter what I have to do to make that happen.

Synopsis:

I’d rather face a dozen lethal assassins any night than deal with something as tricky, convoluted, and fragile as my feelings.

But here I am. Gin Blanco, the semi-retired assassin known as the Spider. Hovering outside sexy businessman Owen Grayson’s front door like a nervous teenage girl. One thing I like about Owen: he doesn’t shy away from my past—or my present. And right now I have a bull’s-eye on my forehead.

Cold-blooded Fire elemental Mab Monroe has hired one of the smartest assassins in the business to trap me. Elektra LaFleur is skilled and efficient, with deadly electrical elemental magic as potent as my own Ice and Stone powers. Which means there’s a fifty-fifty chance one of us won’t survive this battle. I intend to kill LaFleur—or die trying—because Mab wants the assassin to take out my baby sister, Detective Bria Coolidge, too.

The only problem is, Bria has no idea I’m her long-lost sibling... or that I’m the murderer she’s been chasing through Ashland for weeks. And what Bria doesn’t know just might get us both dead...

My rating: ★★★★★

The war between Mab Monroe and the Spider is finally on.

Synopsis:

What kind of assassin works pro bono?

It’s hard to be a badass assassin when a giant is beating the crap out of you. Luckily, I never let pride get in the way of my work. My current mission is personal: annihilate Mab Monroe, the Fire elemental who murdered my family. Which means protecting my identity, even if I have to conceal my powerful Stone and Ice magic when I need it most.

To the public, I’m Gin Blanco, owner of Ashland’s best barbecue joint. To my friends, I’m the Spider, retired assassin. I still do favors on the side. Like ridding a vampire friend of her oversized stalker—Mab’s right-hand goon who almost got me dead with his massive fists.

At least irresistible Owen Grayson is on my side. The man knows too much about me, but I’ll take my chances. Then there’s Detective Bria Coolidge, one of Ashland’s finest. Until recently, I thought my baby sister was dead. She probably thinks the same about me. Little does she know, I’m a cold-blooded killer . . . who is about to save her life.

My rating: ★★★★★

Synopsis:

Ellie Jordan and her apprentice Stacey investigate a house in an elaborate planned community that was only half-built before it went bankrupt, leaving an instant ghost town with only a few residents. The entity haunting this house is a banshee that feeds on sadness and misery.

Unfortunately for Ellie, this is no simple haunting, but just one symptom of the cursed land on which the suburban community was built. The old railroad line running through the nearby woods might just be a conduit for lost souls, including dark spirits with ill intentions toward the living. Ellie soon finds herself facing one of the most complex and difficult hauntings she’s seen in her career.
My rating: ★★★★☆

Ellie Jordan's next job takes her to this neighborhood that was abandoned in the middle of building due to insufficient funds. Now, there are just a couple of people here and there, living in some of the complete houses. But it's all for the best, I suppose, seeing as how it turns out that the whole place is pretty much haunted--an abandoned railroad nearby, particularly.

Synopsis:

Halloween has arrived and so has everyone’s favorite ghost: Rachel. Invited to a Halloween party, Mel and her friends hope to enjoy a night of fun. The party soon turns sour when a man turns up dead during a murder mystery game.

While Detective Shorts is busy questioning everyone who attended the party, Mel and her friends start their own investigation. Soon they find themselves digging into secrets best forgotten—the hostess’ mysterious sister and a lost will—and an underground tunnel that the murderer used to sneak into the mansion. Will Mel be able to solve this case before the night ends and the killer disappears?

My rating: ★★★★☆

It's party time!

Halloween has come around and Mel, Greg, and Jackie have been invited to a Halloween party. Oh yeah, and Rachel tags along too (yup, she's back)! Everybody is having a great time when suddenly, one of the guests is killed right then and there, in front of everyone! Detective Shorts and some other officers in blue show up and start interrogating the guests, trying to figure out what the heck happened at the party. Mel herself stays out of it and lets the police do their job... HA! Did you actually fall for that? Because she totally did not do that, lol. Detective Shorts has pretty much resigned himself to getting Mel's help whether he likes it or not, so Mel goes off to investigate the murder her own way, with the help of her friends, of course. Drunk ghosts, evil twins (maybe?), and lost money... oh my!

If you've been here for a while you know how much I LOVE the horror genre, be it in books or movies! I just love it! SO when I found this challenge I KNEW I had to join! I am SO excited! "The goal is to read fairytale retellings, but if you want you can also pick other retellings. It’s up to you what you count as a fairytale." I love fairytale retellings! I'm hoping I'll get a couple of books in this year! I'm thinking Cinder by Marissa Meyer...

My goal: Prince Charming: 1 – 4 books

    The 2015 Re-Read Challenge
    JOIN HERE!

I love re-reading books, as I've mentioned before! SO I thought this challenge was great! Basically... "any genre, length or format of book counts, as long as it's a re-read." No set number of books (though I'd like to read at least 5); just read as many as you'd like/can! You're supposed to make a list of books you want to re-read, but that wouldn't exactly work for me seeing as how I'm a big time mood reader especially when it comes to re-reads! So I'll be listing the books down below as I read them :)

    1. Clarity by Kim Harrington
    2. Forgive My Fins (Fins #1) by Tera Lynn Childs
    3. The Son of Sobek by Rick Riordan
    4. The Staff of Serapis by Rick Riordan

"The goal: To read as many prequels and sequels as you can. You set your goal at whatever number works for you. Novellas count, either prequels or sequels (i.e. #0.5, #1.5, #2.5, etc)." So this challenge is based on a point system, not on a set number of books: "1 point for each prequel or sequel novella read and reviewed, 2 points for each full-length sequel read and reviewed, 10 points for completing and reviewing a full series (doesn't require novellas), and you do not get points for the first book in a series."

    My goal: 76-100 points: Professional

    1. Ellie Jordan, Ghost Trapper Series by J.L. Bryan
    2. Perception (Clarity #2) by Kim Harrington [2 points + 10 points]
    3. Down Under with the Hottie (Investigating the Hottie #3) by Juli Alexander [2 points]
    4. A Place Beyond (The Danaan Trilogy #3) by Laura Howard [2 points + 10 points]
    5. Aurora Sky: Vampire Hunter Series by Nikki Jefford
    6. Unfed (Undead #2) by Kirsty McKay [2 points + 10 points]
    7. The Mellow Summers Series by Janet McNulty
    8. Lunatic Life Series by Sharon Sala
    9. Fear Street Series by R.L. Stine

I've always been a huge fan of series books, but I end up starting them and never getting around to finishing them. That's why I originally started this reading challenge. This is a challenge to finish up those unfinished series books!
